get used to the following terms in the next 96 hours. heat dome, heat advisory, heat warning, heat index. adjectives like seearing, backing, torrid, sauna like, furnace like heat, lets examine first what these terms mean. Heat dome, when high pressure at the surface and aloft is stacked up vertically and doesnt moves and moves very little and the sun bakes the atmopshere , with no winds at the surface and aflot that heat becoming stifling... Heat advisory is when the real temperature fells like 95-100. Heat warning is when the real temperature feels like 100-110. the heart of the heat, will cross the region, thursday, friday and saturday... The most impressive of the three days looks to be friday.. no major relief is in sight through the weekend.. The good news is, some relief is in sight but we will have to wait until the early part of next week...

HOT

HOT WEATHER IS FAST APPROACHING THE TRI STATE REGION. TODAY WAS A SMALL EXAMPLE OF THE HEAT THAT WILL ENGULF US OVER THE NEXT 48 TO 72 HRS. TEMPERATURES TODAY WERE MAINLY IN THE UPPER 80;S WITH SOME LOWER 90S. COOLER PLACES SUCH AS LONG ISLAND WERE IN THE MID TO UPPER 80'S DUE TO A SEABREEZE. FOR TOMORROW AND THURSDAY EXPECT TEMOERATURES TO CLIMB WELL INTO THE 90'S AS A LARGE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE DEEP SOUTH PUMPS WESTERLY DOWNSLOPING WINDS INTO OUR REGION. THIS IS PARTICULARLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND YOU SHOULD STAY IN AIR CONDITIONED PLACES, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER AND CHECK ON THE ELDERLY...

wet then dry

several inches of ran has fallen across the tri-state region over the last 72 hours. anywhere from 2-5 inches of rain has resulted in flooding in portions of new jersey and new york. Periods of moderate to heavy rain will continue through friday with several disturbances producing showers and some thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall in a short period of time. Sunny skies and dry conditions will prevail over the weekend and temperatures will climb into the mid 70s. The question remains how long will the rain last and how long will it stay nice though next week.

omega block

Oncem aybe twice a year we fall into a pattern called an omega block.. I will explain this is laymens terms. Take a jetstream and form it into an omega pattern, just like the greek letter. a stalled out low pressure system off the coast of the northeast is bringing rain from maine to mass and cooler temperatures... out in the midwest and deep south, warm and humid air is being pumped in from the gulf of mexico and temperatures are ranging from the lower 80's to the mid 90's... in the west another slow moving low pressure system is bringing rainfall to the four corners and big sky country.. this pattern will slowy shift east into the northeast and eastern seaboard by the weekend leavin us with the potential prolonged period of unsettled weather

nice 2 days

Over the next 48 hours we will finally dry out and see mainly sunny skies across the tri state region. Temperatures will be bear seasonable on thursday but fall about 15 degrees below normal on friday as winds shift to the southeast and intergrade the colder water temperatures. we will be hard pressed to reach the lower 50's on friday. Sunny skies will give away to afternoon clouds on friday and rain wont be far away on friday night as a warm front approaces from the south.. scattered showers will arrive late friday night along with near seasonable overnight temperatures.. as for the weekend? Stay tuned

wintry mix

A wintry mix of rain and snow will cover the tri state region tonight through friday morning. the coast will see mainly rain with a mixture of rain and snnow inland.. the further inland about 40-50 miles from the city. an accumulation of 1-3 inches of snow is possible. all precipitation will taper off from west to east on friday. the city will see between .25-.50 inches of rainfall. winds will pick up out of the north and nortwest tomorrow ranging from 20-25 mph with higher gusts especially east. the weekend looks good but remaining below normal with temperatures near 50.

wintry mess

Round one is now over and round two is yet to come. Those that live in the city and along the coast didnt see much of snow. what did fall was light and only stuck to grassy surfaces. Areas north and west of the city saw upwards of 9 inches of snow mainly in parts of northwest new jersey. a general 3-6 inch snowfall across the suburbs was the general rule. Another round of wintry precipitation will come in tonight and last through thursday morning. an additional 2-4 inches of snow is likely across the higher elevations. Along the coast and in the city some accumulations will be likely after midnight on the grassy surfaces...

wintry mess

A late season winter storm will move into the region overnight and last through thursday morning. For those who live along the connecticut coast, jersey coast, long island and new york city a wintry mix of snow and rain is likely. any accumulations of an inch or 2 will be on grassy surfaces. Once you move further north and west of the city, this will be mainly a wet snow event. The higher the elevation the greater amount of snow you will see. For northwest new jersey and the lower hudson valley expect a general 4-8 inches with the higher amounts on hilltops and in mountainous terrain. The wintry mess will taper off to all snow thursday morning followed by sunny skies thursday afternoon but chilly temperatures will remain...

More wintry weather

A after a round of snow rain and snow this morning more is on the way. Anywhere between 1-4 inches of snow fell across the region mainly north of the coast. On tuesday, temoperatures will climb to near seasonable range but once again another storm system will rapidly develop over the midwest and bring in precipitation in the form of rain and snow into the region. Clouds will increase tuesday night and rain and snow will break out wednesday morning. The snow will transition to rain along the coast but may stay as all snow inland. right now accumulations of an inch of slush is possible along the coast with upwards of 4 inches inland... we will monitor this storm over the next 48 to 72 hrs

Cold then wet

After a mild day across the region, arctic air will barrel through our region tonight and last into tomorrow. Temperatures tonight will fall into the lower 20's in the city and drop into the lower teens in the suburbs under clear skies. Thursday will feature the coldest day of the week as temperatures will have a hard time reaching the freezing mark. On friday we will see a slow moderation as temperatures return to seasonable and well above normal this weekend. A major rain storm will move into the area on sunday and last into monday. A significant amount of rain is possible.

A QUICK HITTER

ARCTIC AIR IS MOVING RAPIDLY TOWARDS THE TRI STATE AREA. AND A SURFACE LOW HAS HOOKED UP TO THE FRONT AND IS PRODUCING A SWATH OF SNOW FROM WESTERN TENNESSEE TO WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. WE THINK THAT THE SURFACE LOW WILL GET TO THE DELMARVA, THE VIRGINA CAPRES AND THE GET VERY CLOSE TO THE BENCHMARK POSITION OF 40/70 WHICH IS 130 MILES SOUTH AND EAST OF MONTAUK. "THE SHARPER THE BLAST THE SOONER IT PASTS" APPLIES TO THIS STORM. MOVING AT 35 MPH , SNOW WILL ARRIVE AFTER MIDNIGHT AND THE ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL BE ROUGHLY UNTIL 7AM THEN TAPER OFF RAPIDLY. THE LIKELY SCENERIO HERE IS 3-5 INCHES PERHAPS SOME SPOTS SLIGHTLY LESS AND SOME SPOTS SLIGHTLY MORE. ARCTIC AIR ARRIVES OVER THE WEEKEND. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 17-22 IN THE CITY AND 12-18 IN THE SUBURBS. OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS AND SUNDAYS DAYTIME HIGHS WILL HAVE A HARD TIME MAKING INTO THE 20'S ESPECIALLY NORTH AND WEST WHERE THERE WILL BE SUBSTANTIAL SNOWPACK.

MR G AND CHRIS BOBINSKI

9:25PM

ANOTHER SNOW EVENT

THIS WILL VBE A QUICK HITTER IN AND AROUND THE TRI STATE AREA. THOUGH THE COMPUTERS ARE IN AGREEMENT THAT SNOW IS LIKELY AND DURATION OF SNOW IS PART OF THE ENSEMBLE. INTENSITY AND TRACK STILL REMAIN UNCERTAIN. AS OF NOW, SNOW WILL ARRIVE AROUND MIDNIGHT ON THURSDAY. THE PRIARY WILL RE DEVELOP OFF THE DELMARVA AND VIRGINA CAPES AND TRACK RAPIDLY TO THE NORTH AND EAST. THIS IS THE SCENERIO 2-4 INCHES OR 3-5 INCHES DEPENDING WHERE YOU ARE IN THE TRI STATE AREA. ARTCI ARI WILL FOLLOW ON THE HELLS OF THE STORM . THE COLDEST AIR MASS OF THE SEASON BY FAR WILL ARRIVE FRIDAY LATE AFTERNOON NIGHT AND INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE BETWEEN 10 AND 15 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL

ONE STORM GONE HERE COMES ANOTHER

A WILD MORNING CUMMTE SAW SNOW, SLEET, FREEZING RAIN AND RAIN.. SOME PLEASE RECEIVED UP TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET. THIS STORM IS NOW DEPARTED AND ONLY A FEW SHOWERS WILL LINGER THROUGH TOMORROW. THEN WE TURN OUR ATTENTION TO THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. A VIGOROUS STORM SYSTEM WILL MVOE QUIKLY OUT OF THE NORTHWEST AND INTO THE ROCKIES ON WEDNESDAY.. MAKE ITS WAY TOWARDS THE MIDWEST ON THURSDAY AND MOVE INTO THE TIR STATE REGION ON FRIDAY.. THE QUESTION IS , WILL IT SLOW DOWN TO MOVE FAST. IF IT SLOWS DOWN, THEN THERE IS A CHANCE FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOWS ACROSS THE REGION. IF IT MOVED AT A FAST CLIP THEN SOME ACCUMULATING SNOW IS LIKELY BUT FAR LESSER AMOUNTS...STAY TUNED

CHRIS BOBINSKI AND MR G

8:27PM

ICY MORNING

A strong storm system will be making its way into our region overnight. With cold air in place the precipitation will begin as snow across all areas. During the overnight period, there will be a transation of snow to sleet and freezing rain and also plain rain. The morning commute will be treacherous as snow and ice will make roadways very difficult to get around. As warmer air moves into the region tuesday morning any frozen precipitation will changeo ver to rain from the city , to long island and along the jersey coastline. Further north and west the cold air will have trouble receeding and a prolonged period of icing is likely. Snowall accumulations will be rather light in the range of 1-2 inches in the city but a 2-4 swath is possible in the suburbs. Ice will be the main problem as the morning progresses in the northern suburbs. Allow extra time for all types of travel

STILL ANOTHER STORM

EVENTHOUGH THIS STORM WILL NOT BE AS IMPRESSIVE AS THE BLIZZARD TWO AND HALF WEEKS AGO ITS SHOWING WHAT WILL BE A TWELVE HOUR PUNCH. IN THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD DEPENDING WHERE YOU ARE ONE TO TWO INCHES OF SNOW WILL FALL PER HOUR. TWO INCHES WILL BE GOOD FOR LONG ISLAND AND INCH PLUS THE CITY , NASSAU COUNTY AND POINTS NORTH. THE TRACK OF THE STORM WILL DEPOSIT THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS OF SNOW OVER THE EASTERN END OF LONG ISLAND AND TWO THIRDS OF CONNECTICUT. A BLIZZARD WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR BOSTON. WHITE OUT CONDITIONS BETWEEN TWO AM AND FIVE AM ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE FIVE BOROUGHS, NASSAU AND SUFFOLK COUNTY. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM BETWEEN SIX AND TWELVE INCHES IN THE CITY TO TWELVE INCHES PLUS OVER THE EASTERN END OF LONG ISLAND, LESS SOUTH OF THE CITY AND UPWARDS OF A FOOT TO THE NORTH OF THE CITY. SNOW SHOULD TAPER OFF BY LATE MORNING FOLLOWED BY VERY COLD CONDITIONS..

MR G AND CHRIS BOBINSKI

9:05PM

ANOTHER IMPORTANT STORM

ONCE AGAIN THE INGREDIENTS ARE THERE FOR BLIZZARD LIKE CONDITIONS. COLD AIR IS IN PLACE IN ALL LAYERS OF THE ATMOSPHERE AND A TREMENDOUS STORM WILL DEVELOP OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES TAKE THE BENCHMARK 40 LAT AND 70 LONG SOUTH AND EAST OF MONTAUK POINT. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL LAST FROM ROUGHLY 2AM TO 10 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING AND THEN TAPER OFF IN THE AFTERNOON. RIGHT NOW IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY SNOW WILL CO-EXIST. THE SRONG WINDS WILL COME ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE STORM LATER IN THE AFTERNOON BUT BLOWING AND DRIFTING IN THE AFTERNOON WILL STILL BE A PROBLEM. ACCUMULATIONS WILL VARY AND WILL BE HARD TO MEASURE. THOUGH ITS FAIR TO SAY THAT 6-12 INCHES IS A GOOD BET WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER ANOUNTS. LIKE ALL STORMS OF THIS MAGNITUDE ANY WOBBLING TO THE WEST OR TO THE EAST WILL PRODUCE DRAMATIC CHANGES IN PRECIP TYPE AND SNOW AMOUNTS BUT THIS LOOKS LIKE A MAJOR EAST COAST SNOWSTORM.

MR G AND CHRIS BOBINSKI

4:28PM

ACTIVE PERIOD

WHERE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS YET. THE 1-4 INCH SNOWFALL WITH SPOTS HAVING MORE IS ENDING. TOMORROW FROM THE CITY SOUTH THERE COULD BE OCCASSIONAL SNOW SHOWERS FOR THE CITY AND FURTHER SOUTH OCCASSIONAL SNOW. AFTER THAT ALL EYES TURN TO THE GULF OF MEXICO. AN UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM WILL CROSS THE COUNTRY AND A SURFACE LOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO. THE SOUTHERN STREAM RIGHT NOW LOOKS TO BE THE STRONGER OF THE TWO. NEVER THE LESS THERE WILL BE WEATHER HEADLINES OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN US WITH SNOW , SLEET AND RAIN. THE QUESTION BECOMES, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE EVENTUAL STORM TRACK? IF THIS COASTAL LOW TRACKS CLOSE ENOUGH TO US, SNOW COMES BACK AT US TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. IF THE COASTAL LOW MOVES OUT TO SEA MUCH LESS SNOW WILL FALL IF ANY. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FIVE DAYS LATER STILL ANOTHER STORM WILL THREATHEN.

MR G & CHRIS BOBINSKI

4:59PM

WEATHER ROULETTE

COMPLEX SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP ACROSS OUR AREA TOMORROW. VERY LIGHT SNOW BY 4-7AM IN THE MORNING WILL PICK UP TO PERIODS OF SNOW IN THE AFTERNOON ENDING BY 8-9PM AT NIGHT. CITY, NASSAU COUNTY, PARTS OF SUFFOLK POINTS SOUTH ARE 1-3 INCHES ARE PRELIMINARY ESTIMATES WITH 3-6 INCHES NORTH AND NORTHEAST OF THE CITY.

A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT FOR THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY, CONNECTICUT AND EASTERN LONG ISLAND. SNOWFALL RATES OF 3-6 INCHES IS POSSIBLE

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF NEW JERSEY, THE 5 BOROUGHS, NASSAU AND WESTERN SUFFOLK COUNTIES FROM EARLY FRIDAY MORNING UNTIL 1AM SATURDAY MORNING. 1-3 INCHES OF SNOW IS LIKELY.
