Let's Hope For A Great Fight From Mosley, Mayweather

Boxing's latest "SUPER FIGHT" that on it rides the hope that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Shane Mosley (AND HE IS NOT "Sugar" Shane-"Sugar is reserved for 1 man-Ray Robinson-the BEST fighter of all time) the Sweet Science will return to the forefront of American sports. I'm just hoping for a fight worth the hype.
Mayweather vs. Mosley & PEDs

The debate over Performance Enhancing Drugs has raged in baseball and football for years. Now it has spread to boxing. Floyd Mayweather was supposed to fight Manny Pacquiao but that fight has been scrapped because Pacquiao won't agree to Olympic style drug testing.
So... a fight between Mayweather and Shane Mosley for May 1st in Vegas will happen. Both fighters will undergo random blood testing. Mosley admits to unknowingly using steroids supplied by the Balco Lab in 2003 when he fought Oscar De La Hoya. The Golden Boy, ironically, is promoting this fight. We were at the Press Conference which had the usual pushing and shoving and verbal taunts... Check it out after the jump...

There’s a great story brewing at the 83rd Annual Daily News Golden Gloves this year….the story of Sebastien Smarth, who’s participation in the event is raising awareness for Haitian relief.
Smarth was profiled in today’s Daily News, and we caught up with him tonight after his win at Club Amazura in Jamaica.
Sebastien spoke candidly with us about his personal struggles to rise above negative influences in his neighborhood and also what he’s going through in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti.
Though a native New Yorker, Smarth still has family in Haiti and he starts off the interview with an incredibly sad story about the fate of one of his family members.
Two dollars from every ticket sold tonight went to a Haitian relief fund.
After listening to the interview, you’ll no doubt want to keep an eye on Sebastien as he makes his way through the tournament.

Boxing Loses A Legend

Long time boxing fans, especially those in New York and and his native Puerto Rico, will fondly remember Hall of Famer Jose Torres, a 1956 Olympic Silver medalist and former light heavyweight champion. Sadly, 'Chegui' passed away today at age 72. Torres is seen here during his career and with one time heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney.
Torres was known as a tenacious fighter. He stopped Willie Pastrano at the Garden to win the 175 pound title in 1965. Torres lost the light heavy title the following year in a close decision to Dick Tiger. Other notable wins came against Bobo Olson and Benny 'Kid' Paret. He retired in 1969.
But Jose was equally, if not more loved, for his work outside the ring. He became a leader in the Puerto Rucan community. He served as the head of the New York State Athletic Commission and President of the World Boxing Organization. Torres spent many years as a boxing historian and journalist, writing books on Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson in addition to working for ESPN Desportes' boxing telecasts.
Torres 'hometown of Ponce has declared three official days of mourning for Jose. His dignified prescence will be missed, particularly as the sport he loved so much continues its decline of interest in this country.
