Yanks, Mets Better Hope Galea Is Telling The Truth

Baseball and steroids, perhaps the most sickening combination since peanut butter & fluff sandwiches, won't go away. Just when you think you can move on, tidbits float in on drips and drabs to remind us that pure sport is GONE from baseball.

Earlier today, Anthony Galea, the new witch doctor of sports and steroids told the Associated Press that he gave Alex Rodriguez anti-inflammatories last year for his ailing hip. Galea, a Canadian native, is under investigation and indictment for allegedly distributing illegal substances. A female assistant is cooperating with the feds.

Galea maintains that he has never given HGH to any of his A-list clientele, including Tiger Woods, A-Rod, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran & swimmer Dara Torres. For the sake of New York baseball fans and the players involved, he better be telling the truth.

Let's face it: In today's culture there is plenty to be suspicious about. Lord willing the Mets' shortstop has a treatable thyroid imbalance and nothing more. But thyroid trouble is a sign of performance enhancing drug overuse. Meanwhile, Beltran's knee ailment has been more mysterious than anything Robert Downey, Jr. had to deal with in Sherlock Holmes. Rodriguez admitted to steroid use last year. Would it surprise anyone today or 5, 10 years from now, that he used HGH? There is the possibility A-Roid violated his contract by seeing Gales: The Yankees claim they never authorized Galea's treatment. But the MD who operated on Rodriguez' hip, the man the Yankees chose, DID SUGGEST Gaalea. Besides, like Beltran and the Mets, the Yankees need Rodriguez, so don't expect any punishment there,

Now, baseball DOES NOT have a test for HGH. They should. Perhaps Galea's assistant will sing that in fact three of the biggest athletes in New York DID engage in illegal activity. You hope not-you pray this all just "coincidence." The MLB Players Association better hope Galea NEVER gave HGH to any of its members. The outcry would be too great for the world's strongest union to deny. In the long run, it may be the best thing. But a short term mess would damage baseball and the fortunes of both local baseball treams. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best-unless you choose to pick your poison.
