Ok, Time For Jets And Their Fans To Calm Down
I've had about 2 days to reflect on the Jets loss to the Colts Sunday. Despite the fact that Gang Green was clearly outclassed by Peyton Manning and Company, Coach Rex Ryan and Gang Green Nation talk more Whoopi Goldberg on "The View." It's time for everyone to settle down. Remember, the Jets fell short of the ultimate goal. Rarely is the SUPER BOWL loser remembered, never mind the losers of the conference championships. It's time for the Jets to be quiet and move on.
Let's examine a few facts:
1. We now know for sure the Jets BACKED into the playoffs. Can anyone doubt after seeing Sunday's game that with a lead in Week 16 in December, the Colts would have beaten the Jets if their regulars had stayed in the game? Add to that a Bengals team that put up no effort the following week, and the Jets were lucky to be invited to the postseason.
2. The idea that the 2009 Jets compare with the 2007 Giants: Ah,no. Remember, the GIANTS WON THE SUPER BOWL! At the time, Big Blue was given little to no chance of going through the Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers. Unlike the Jets, the legitimately WON their way to the playoffs by beating Buffalo before losing 38-35 to the powerful Patriots in the regular season finale. After the Jets beat the Bengals in the Wild Card, you'd have thought they were 14-2.
3.Rex Ryan's notion that the Jets are "the biggest thing in town." Again, wrong. The Yankees are. They are the reigning World Series champs and New York is a baseball town first. To say they own the football fans here isn't totally accurate. The Giants have been to 4 Super Bowls in the last 24 seasons. The Jets roll out aged, overrated Joe Namath to recreate their singular moment in the sun. The team is a now story in our "What have you done for me lately?" tabloid/internet driven society. Until they win a title, Ryan's Jets have done little of lasting historical value.
4. The Jets "great playoff run" was created by:
Luck-The Colts and Bengals gave the gift of postseason to the Jets. Cincy, beat up physically and emotionally by the death of Chris Henry, had nothing in the Wild Card game and still could have won had Carson Palmer played better.
Lack of Execution/Poor Coaching: Nick Kaeding's 3 missed FG's and Norv Turner's brainlock coaching were instrumental to the Jets win over the Chargers.
The Press: The media loves Rex Ryan like they never have Tom Coughlin. Like him or not, General never yucks it up and says they WILL win, or SHOULD be the favorites to win anything. Big Blue just goes about its business. But because Rex Ryan doesn't have a filter, the press eats him up and is supportive. I know. I started buying into the phony hype too. It will be awhile before NY is a Jets town.
As "Pastor Rob" in Bellmore-the ultimate Giants fan might say: "Be quiet, play hard, play fair-and WIN." Keep in mind, for all the bluster of the last few weeks, the Jets have fewer championships than the Yankees (naturally), Mets, Knicks and Rangers. Theyve made it to the championship game LESS THAN the Nets.
So, Rex and all of "Gang Green" nation-count your blessings, strengthen your team'with a pass rusher and a receiever, and like the Colts-win with class. Rex Ryan's mouth finally cashed some checks his supposed great defense couldn't cash. Peyton Manning was the banker. But even with an overdrawn balance, the Jets talk as if blessed with riches. Nothing is father from the truth.

Oy Vey!!!!!
Have you been hanging out with Mike Francesa.
The New York Jets run in the playoffs this month has been exciting for the fans. Why can't you just leave it at that and allow us, the fans, to feel good about our team. Instead, you HATE on everything Green and White.
The Jets defeated Cincinnati 24-14 in the first playoff game. Then beat the San Diego Chargers 17-14 in San Diego. Many felt San Diego was the best team in football. They then played in the AFC Championship game. They more than substantiated their worthiness in these playoffs. Back into the playoffs? Was it the Jets who decided to rest players. The Jets played the schedule they had. They were very fortunate. But back in, I do not think so.
The comparison to the Giants was made only because they were winning on the road. Since the Jets will not win the Super Bowl, there is no longer a comparison.
Rex Ryan is establishing a foundation. He is telling his players and fans that "we are the biggest show in town." He is restoring pride in a team and fan base that has clearly been second class citizens in New York football. He is speaking to his team and fans. It is called motivation. In addition, from a business standpoint, the Jets are selling PSL's and season tickets. This must be factored into Rex's statements.
I do not understand your rant. It is full of so much frustration. Where is this coming from? If you are a Jets HATER, then you should be rejoicing. Is this the way you rejoice.
You are obviously a Giants fan. I have heard similiar comments from Giant fans throughout this month. Your team has three Lombardi Trophies, yet you feel so threatend by a team that hasn't won since January 12, 1969 that you rant in this manner.
I do not remember such widespread vitriol from Jets fans when the Giants made their run two years ago. In fact, because they played New England, a good number of Jets fans were rooting for the Giants. Even with those two blowhards Michael Strahan and Antonio Pierce talking trash every step of the way. We realized everyone in the NFL talks, and the Giants were no different.
Just shows Giants fans are jealous of the success of the Jets.
This, I do not understand. Maybe it provides proof afterall that the Jets "...are the biggest show in town."
I WANT JETS AND GIANTS LAST GAME AT OLD STADIUM, MONEY GOES TO HAITI, WEEK AFTER SUPER BOWL.. PLEASE HELP ME OUT........!!!!!
Hey Dave - I LOVE that idea. It's a shame the logistics are impossible for many reasons, not the least of which is all of the players are home already!
But wow, how fun would that be.....
We can only dream.
James-believe me, I am NOT a Jets hater. I was being honest. You know I love the Mets and that YES, the Yankees aren't my favorite club. You could make THAT comment. I DO think the AFC Title game reinforces that the Jets were extrmely fortunate to get to the playoffs because of Indy and Cincinnati's generosity. That fact CANNOT be denied.
Bobby, I realize you are a Mets fan. Just like in the 1980's when the Mets owned the town, the Yankees have owned it since 1995. This, partly due to the inept stewardship of the Wilpon's. That discussion is for another day.
The word I used related to the Jets is "fortunate." Everything, including Indianapolis and Cincinnati sitting players were key ingredients in reaching the playoffs. I did not like the "backing in" reference.
I was just pleased to receive this good fortune. Being a Jets fan and having played in three AFC Championship games since 1970, we were happy just to be where we were last Sunday.
