We've said Goodbye to 2009 and Hello to 2010... The PIX11 Sports Team wishes everyone a Happy and Healthy 2010... We also have some hopes and wishes for the local sports teams... Let's see if you agree:

Mets: Jason Bay is nice... good to know that Omar Minaya is awake. But the Mets still need some pitching... There's not much out there with John Lackey, Roy Halladay, and Jason Marquis signing with new teams... But there's been talk of acquiring Carlos Zambrano... I'm ok with that. Also... Can we ask the baseball Gods for some health this year??

Yankees: Hmmm... they just won the World Series... They went out and got a new center fielder in Curtis Granderson. They helped their pitching staff by bringing back Javier Vazquez. Maybe he'll be better this time around since he won't be expected to be the ace of the staff. So what would the Yankees ask for? I don't know. What do you get for the team that has everything? I guess you just ask for the Yankees on the field to match their worth on paper. I know... lame request!

As for the Jets... We'll still talking about the present. They have a chance to make the playoffs if they can beat the Bengals on Sunday. The Jets hope for 2010 is a clean, mistake free game from Mark Sanchez. That's numero uno... and they also hope that Darrelle Revis can shut down Ochocinco. We'll assess further Jets hopes after Sunday.

The Giants are in need of an overhaul. How many times did their defense let up 40 points or more this season? The "D" was the staple of the 2007 Super Bowl Champs... it's a shell of its former self. Strangely enough, where do the Giants need the least help... at wide receiver. Were we saying that as Plaxico Burress was being sent to jail?

The Knicks are in position to make a playoff run after a bounce back December. Not as impressive as it could be because the Knicks play in the weaker Eastern Conference. More importantly, they have cap room and can go after a big time free agent or two this summer. Hopefully they make the playoffs because their pick goes to Utah. Can the Knicks attract LeBron or Wade??

The Nets are hoping they don't. They too, are very cap friendly and have money to spend. But would a big time free agent want to come to a team that is currently 3-29?? I guess their immediate hope is to win at least 10 games this year so they beat out the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers who set the record for the league's worst regular season record at 9-73. Looks like it will be close.

To hockey: The Rangers are hoping they can get back to the form they showed when they started the season winning 7 of their first 8 games. They haven't come close since. The Islanders find themselves in last in the Atlantic but they are hovering near the 500 mark just 2 points out of a playoff spot. I guess the Isles would like like a nice hot streak in 2010. The Devils continue to be the best winter team in the area. They are 2 points behind San Jose for the best record in the NHL, but is anyone watching. I think the Devils just want some attention. We'll see how it all shakes out in 2010.

I would like to wish the PIX11 Sports Team a Happy, Healthy and Blessed New Year 2010.

Mets: Health is a key even more than most years. If the Mets players stay on the field, they will be competitive, even as constituted today. Another starting pitcher would help, but we will see what evolves. We are still four months from opening Day.

Yankees do not have any holes. Ok...Ok...Maybe left-field, but the best hitting infield in baseball can carry a less than productive left-fielder. Who really thinks the Yankees will start 2010 with Brett Gardner as their starting left-fielder. Remember Bubba Crosby as an everyday center-fielder. Never happened. The Yankees signed Johnny Damon.

Jets are in the here and now. They must find a way to win on Sunday Night in the swamp and get to the playoffs. Could match them up next week with the same Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati. But, for the time being, let's concentrate on a victory Sunday Night as the Jets close down Giants Stadium. That doesn't sound right, but it is true nonetheless.

Giants need to concentrate on restoring their defense. The once dominant Giants defense was torched over the better part of the season.

As the Knicks wait for July 1, 2010, they have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs in the eastern Conference. With four dominant teams, they probably will not advance beyond the first round, but they can compete with the remaining mediocrity in the east.

The Nets hope to avoid having the worst record in the history of the NBA. I think they will get to double figures in wins. They have even more cap space than their counterparts on this side of the Hudson, so they may go on a shopping spree in July 2010.

The Devils again seem to be the best hockey team in the Metro Area. The Islanders youth seems to be taking form as they bid for a playoff spot. The Rangers will underachieve as thery always do.
