I had the best time hanging out with the Long Island Hurricanes. They were kind enough to allow me into their first practice of the season this past Saturday. As a female athlete, I never underestimate an ALL woman team but I was even more impressed by the tenacity, toughness and the multitasking talents of the ladies. They are women of all ages and all skill levels. I must admit, I was initially going to step on the ice and try to play but chickened out. Even the novices look pretty damn good and hockey is not something I take lightly. I will be taking lessons soon! Check out the story in the video player and GO HURRICANES!

"Lolita Lopez Shoots and She Scoooooores....." That time will come! LoLo the sniper!!!
Great story. I have watched Women's Collegiate Hockey on a Divison I level and these ladies are very talented.
The Long Island Hurricanes look like they play for the love of the game. They juggle family, their professional life and this type of recreation. They look very skilled. Nice story.
Good Luck with the Hockey Lessons. Do you skate? Maybe you can take a shift with these ladies and do a follow-up story later this winter.
Afterall, if you really get good, my Islanders play just down the street and we could use another scorer.....
