Now What?

Ok, so now that baseball season's over, what are we supposed to watch?

The obvious answer is football, basketball and hockey.....3/4 of our sports! But if you're like me, you just can't ease into the "lesser" three so easily after seven months of fantastic baseball.

YANKEES-RAINED-OUT.jpg

Thought I'd be able to make the transition tonight, given that EVERY New York-area basketball and hockey team was playing....but nope....just wasn't that exciting.

Nights (other than NFL Sundays) during the wintertime don't get much more jam-packed than tonight, and I was still left wondering "now what?"

Anyone else feeling this same way?

I guess the Yankees making their month-long run in the playoffs didn't allow me to make my standard transition to hoops/puck/pigskin.

What's the opposite of "cold turkey"....you know, when you want to become involved with something all at once -- as opposed to kicking the habit in one shot.

Whatever that is, that's how I'm going to have to get back into the non-baseball sports-watching groove. I bet you I'm not alone.

I wonder how other people are coping.

It definitely doesn't help that the Knicks are a laughing stock and the Nets only make the news when one of their players has swine flu.

And as far as hockey goes - what am I going to do now that Radek Martinek is out of the year for the Islanders!!??

Ok, that last one was a joke.

But seriously, with baseball gone, these other sports better step up and answer the age-old post October question....."now what?"

98 Days 'Til Pitchers and Catchers....
Actually, last night I found myself watching the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game on the MLB Network. Baseball lives on. On November 21 at 2:30 p.m. EST, the Arizona Fall League Championship Game will be televised live from Arizona on the aforementioned MLB Network. Keep that date and time in mind if you are so inclined.
Obviously you are a Yankees fan to refer to "seven months of fantastic baseball." As a Mets fan, it was more like seven LONG months of inept baseball.
Anyway, the hot stove season is underway. SNY, YES and MLB Network should fill the massive void somewhat with hot stove baseball information. Does not replace actual games, but gives us some fodder for discussion through these long, cold winter months.
All New York sports eyes turn to the Jets (4-4) and the Giants (5-3). Two mediocre football teams that may not make the playoffs. How's that for a January?
Basketball season in New York is over before it actually began. With the New Jersey (Atlantic Yards/Brooklyn?) Nets (0-7) and Guitar Jimmy Dolan's pathetic, can't wait until July 1st, New York Knicks (1-6), you need not pay attention to the bouncing ball in 2009-2010.
I have been watching every New York Islanders (6-6-5) game. As my Islanders seek out the light in the "Lighthouse," they have proven to be a resilient hockey team. My favorite win was the night of Game 1 of the World Series when the Islanders, before 14,000+ Mets fans, defeated the Rangers on the Island.
Anyway, still 98 Days 'Til Pitchers and Catchers Report in Port St. Lucie and Tampa...

Football for me Matty...Now I can actually concentrate on the teams. I am getting into hockey too but I agree with James about the basketball. So, football for now...though watching with the memories of locker room celebration, the parade, I am still celebrating...
