NFL Makes Hypocritical "Rush" To Judgement

So there I was, safely planning on leaving this whole Rush Limbaugh-Rams ownership thing alone. I personally don't see Rush as the great conservative leader others do. Like Ann Coulter, Alan Colmes, Michael Moore and the like, he has his detractors and supporters. In this life, we all do. It's the nature of being human. Some are more revered by their supporters than others. There's no doubt in my mind that Limbaugh at some level enjoys at some level being in the spotlight-even while he claims to be "misquoted" and "misunderstood."

But upon further review, the NFL and Dave Checketts forcing Limbaugh out as part of an ownership group to buy the Rams points of hypocrisy.

First off, lets point out that Rush claimed on his radio program today that Dave Checketts had assured him that all would be OK with his part in Ram ownership Limbaugh believes that things were fine until "liberals" and the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson got involved. True? Possibly.

Last month Reuters reported that the NFL-through teams and players, donated several million dollars to candidates throughout the U.S. last year. Reuters claims that the San Diego Chargers alone donated $2.4 million dollars to candidates. Did you know that the NFL has it's own lobby group: NFL Pac, with offices in Washington? What better way for an industry worth billions to grab the ear of the White House and Congress?

Did you know that NFL Players Association Chief DeMaurice Smith made a $2,300 donation to President Obama's election campaign last year? That's certainly Smith's right as an American. I would encourage all of us to support people we believe in for elected office. But surely Smith knows that Limbaugh is no fan of the President.

Rush is also no fan of Sharpton and Jackson. The case can certainly be made that Sharpton (the Tawana Brawley case among others) and Jackson (his negative comments on Jews and New York) are every bit as "divisive" as anything Limbaugh has said or done. So they are among the last who should ever blast anyone.

If Limbaugh is right about the NFL's original blessing, then Roger Goodell's blasting of Limbaugh is also nonsensical. This from the league that allows talented players to live a thug mentality and play despite various crimes and misdemeanors. Roger, you feel so strongly against Rush? Then BAN political activity of any kind on the part of any owner, player or official. Have a ZERO tolerance for any kind of criminal activity. If you feel the NFL is such a high profile, public industry, have the same standard for all involved. Colts owner Jim Irsay doesn't like Limbaugh? He forgets his family abandoned an entire city-Baltimore-under cover of night for more sawbucks in Indianapolis. Please, calm down Jim.

I don't begrudge the right of the NFL as a private enterprise to bring in who it wants. If as reported, Marshall Faulk is brought in to Checketts' group, that would be awesome. Faulk is a good ambassador for the game. It's just sad that once again, "inclusive" means "You agree with us all the time or you're divisive." Last time I checked, Limbaugh hasn't been in jail or abused anyone (other than himself with drug addiction) He's a firestorm on the radio, which is WHY ESPN hired him a few years back in the first place.

The league should stop being convieniently judgemental and focus on their own sins before going after Limbaugh or anyone else.
