Well... after a year's hiatus, the Yankees are back in the post season (where they belong... according to most Yankees fans)... No, I'm not bitter... I'm actually looking forward to the playoffs... And no, I won't be rooting against the Yankees. I think it will be VERY interesting to see what this Yankee team does with a new manager at the helm. Obviously this is Girardi's second year with the club but this will be his first playoff series as a manager. The Yankees made the playoffs every year with Joe Torre at the helm but after 2000, they couldn't get it done in the post season. Will a new voice make a difference this October? We'll see.

What is nice, is that the Yankees finally won a game in Anaheim. What might that mean in the playoffs? Maybe nothing. But maybe something. The Yanks had already clinched a berth before they won their game but it was good that they won the game somewhat exorcising their Anaheim demons. The Yankees had lost 8 straight against Boston this year but then one win got them going, and off they went. I also liked the businessman-like reaction to the win. They were happy to make the playoffs but they know they have more work to do... like clinching the division.

This Yankee team has done almost everything right this year. I say almost because the "Joba Rules" are ridiculous. This guy who had so much potential doesn't know which way is up. I understand they want to preserve him so he won't turn out like... say Kerry Wood... who couldn't stay on the field... But the Yankees have flip flopped... starter, reliever, reliever starter... And since they have put this innings count on him late in the season, he has not done well. Can the Yanks depend on him in the post season to just turn it around? Hopefully they won't have to... at least in the first round.

A-J Burnett is good at the walk off win pie in the face but at 11-9 with a 4.22 ERA, he has not been exactly what the Yankees have wanted. Sure, there have been flashes of brilliance, but few and far between. After that, I can't find any flaws. Mark Teixeira has had an MVP type season. C.C. Sabathia has had a Cy Young type season. Alex Rodriguez has come back from the steroids admission and hip surgery and been productive AND QUIET... No distractions! The captain is having a Jeterian season... Like that word?? Phil Hughes in the bullpen... Andy Pettitte still has gas in the tank... The lineup up and down has been clutch... What more could you ask for? Another World Series win. We'll see how that goes. Yankees fans... leave a comment. Tell me what you think!
