Calm Down, Jets Fans

New York football fans are feeling giddy. Both the Jets and the Giants are 3-0. That's the first time since 2000, the final year of the Clinton administration and the year the Yankees topped the Mets in the last REAL Subway Series. That season, Big Blue went to the Super Bowl (the one I tend to forget given the 34-7 mauling by the Ravens) while Gang Green failed to make the playoffs at 9-7.

That's where this leads me: Jets fans need to calm the heck down. I understand that Rex Ryan has changed the whole victim/losing culture of the team. I get that unlike Eric Mangini, Big Rex has a pulse. Yes, Mark Sanchez is doing great as a rookie QB. No fooling, an active agressive defense is what you need to win.

But let's hold the phone-LITERALLY!! If I hear Vinny from Brookville PROMISE one more time on a sports radio call in show that Gang Green WILL WIN the Super Bowl, I may throw up.

Guys: it's been just about 40 years since the Jets shocked the Colts 16-7 in Super Bowl III. Jets fans have lived off that experience ever since. Joe Namath has been a bit overrated in my eyes (Matt Snell SHOULD have been the MVP; Giants QB Phil Simms was BETTER than the injury plagued Namath) basking in the one shining moment in team history.

How quickly fans forget the 1969 playoffs, when the Jets lost to the eventual champion Chiefs at Shea. Add on years like 1981, 1984, 1986, 1999, to name a few-all years where Gang Green was supposed to be the last man standing.

Please everyone: Will the Jets win the AFC East? Probably. Keep in mind that there are plenty of fans would say that 3-0 only "guarantees" at least a 3-13 finish! So for all you talk show hosts, callers & bloggers, take the Jets' season, like all things in life, one day, one game at a time.

Those with discerning eyes and ears realize Lolita Lopez is the finest in our market. Those with no courage, never put a name behind their inane comments.

@ James

Lolita in not the finest in our so called market. The finest was pushed out so that she could take over with her incredibly awful sports reports.

There is nothing inane about being, or commenting anonymously. Only those who think that just because they post their names, that they have courage, are truly the discerning.
