Ok Omar... He's out there... Let's Get Him...

If you've read any of my blogs in the past, you know that Roy Halladay is someone I'd like to see in a Mets uniform. Now... It's not just a pipe dream of mine, it's a possibility. Blue Jays GM J.P. Riccardi is not necessarily shopping his ace pitcher but because Halladay has a no trade clause, he has to get Halladay's approval before he makes a trade. So Riccardi has told Halladay that he might be coming to him in the coming days and weeks to bounce trades off him. Why not a trade to the Mets?
Halliday can become a free agent after next season. If he leaves, the Jays would get draft picks, so any team looking to land Halladay would have to fork over their picks plus whatever value the teams agreed to. Now that's the question. What would be enough to get Halladay out of Toronto? Do the Mets have what it takes? They've been through this before when they traded for Johan Santana. They traded blue chip prospect Carlos Gomez and 3 minor league pitchers to get Santana. Might a similar package get Halladay? The Mets best bargaining chip Fernando Martinez has been less than impressive with the big club. Hopefully that hasn't hurt his trade value. They do have some pitchers they like, namely Jonathon Niese and Eddie Kunz. Can they work something out?
Here are a couple of reasons to try. One, duh, he would greatly help out the Mets. He's a stud. He pitches deep into games. Shuts teams down. His presence in the rotation would take a lot of pressure off the other pitchers especially Johan Santana. Right now, Santana is expected to pitch a shutout every time out and when he doesn't, this anemic lineup cannot pick him up. Two.. with the Phillies pitching being what it is, they would love to have him at Citizen's Bank Ballpark wearing red and white. The Mets still need a bat, but getting Halladay would be a great start. Ok Omar.. this is why you earn the big bucks. I'm sure Halladay would like to come here to New York, so let's go get him.

Roy Halliday in orange and blue (and sometimes black) would look good. He is someone that may actually be worth some prospects. Do the Mets have enough quality prospects to get him? Would their package be more attractive than one the Phillies could offer?
Trade talk is as exasperating to me as listening to the "great communicator" Jerry Manuel speak his post game nonsense. Getting Roy certainly would give the Mets as good a one-two punch as there is in baseball.
Having Johan and Roy pitching on back to back days might even make Jerry Manuel look like a good manager.
The Mets should go after Halladay even if that means trading Fernando Martinez because the Mets are in third place and they need to get their butts in gear. Could you see Santana and Halladay going 1-2 in their rotation? Also, Why don't they try to trade for Matt Holliday or Adam Dunn?
