NY Mets: Act Now!

9:58PM | July 16, 2009 | posted by Lolita Lopez | comments: 1

Mets GM Omar Minaya said the Mets are talking to a couple of teams and add the Mets "have a plan" but what the plan is is a mystery. That scares me! Here's why....we saw a little of Jose Reyes working out down in Port St Lucie but Minaya says the shortstop has limited burst on his running. To me that means he can't run! Period! That's no good.

Carlos Delgado is taking grounders...woopee! (sarcastic) Carlos Beltran can't do any real workouts after another MRI revealed the same bone bruise in his knee. And STILL Minaya says that he is not ready to mortgage the youth of the team because he is waiting for injured players to return. News alert...they are not coming back anytime soon! We are looking at the final two weeks in July and it seems neither of the guys will make it back by months end and how ready will they be to actually play good baseball? If you believe in catching up and making a run THIS season, ACT NOW! Make some moves, gets some folks and at least try. Ugh another loss tonight...don't get me wrong, the guys on this team are definitely trying but we need some umph. Mets fans, even the diehards, can't take it if the team doesn't bring in reenforcements. What happens when people stop watching and going to games? ...NAH it's Mets fans...there 'till the end...or not? Talk to me...

Stay The Course!!! There are no reenforcements. There is not one player out there that the Mets could acquire before the July 31, 2009 trade deadline that would make a significant difference in this team.
If the Mets pitched more consistently, they would be in better shape than 42-46, 7 1/2 games behind the Phillies and 7 games out of the wild card.
I realize the three injured players are probably not coming back anytime soon. The Mets health and medical team have more twists and turns than an episode of "Grey's Anatomy."
In June, the Mets starting and relief pitchers had better than a 5.00 ERA. This was the first time this happened in a month to a Mets pitching staff since the 120 loss 1962 season.
Consistent pitching, along with crisp baseball (catching the ball, turning double plays, throwing to the proper bases and cut off man, running the bases etc.) would have put the Mets in a better position on this July 17 day.
The Mets medical staff is a mystery. Jerry Manuel, the great communicator, has proven to be a poor leader of men with all the nonsense he speaks, thus instilling only panic and despair to an already fragile team. Dan Warthen? When Rick Peterson was the Mets pitching coach, other than the often injured Pedro Martinez, he did not have any pitcher's on the DL. Razor Shines may go through an entire season without making a proper decision at third base.
It is time for Jerry and this coaching staff to put the players in position to win. He has created a negative feel around the clubhouse with all his talk about the injuries. Even mild mannered David Wright got testy last night after the game when talking about the "hurt guys." This frustration comes directly from the manager's office. Alex Cora and David Wright have already refuted Manuel's talk about injuries. If the Mets only had a major league quality manager to lead them, they would be in better position today. Manuel got a pass last year and one again this year. The media needs to be reminded that there is more to managing than a good sound bite and a chuckle.
Again, I hear your laments over and over from many Mets fans. The question I always ask is who would be that difference maker(s) and what are you willing to give up. Then, how many victories will that player(s) be worth over the remainder of the season. I look around Major-League baseball and do not see that guy(s). Maybe you do.
