More Trouble For The Mets

Somewhere in New Jersey, Willie Randolph is chuckling to himself. We've written a few times that the Mets lackluster play last year and this season may leave the classy Randolph feeling further vindicated now.

Randolph's greatest nemesis as manager wasn;t the press, the Wilpon family, or even Carlos Delgado. Rather it was Tony Bernazard, the Assistant GM in charge of player development. It's a badly kept secret that Bernazard did everything he could to undermine Randolph's authority with players, most notably Delgado & Jose Reyes-all because Bernazard wanted Manny Acta and not Willie, to replace Art Howe in 2005.

Sadly for Bernazard, good for Mets fans: The Daily News reporting that Bernazard challenged the Mets minor league team in Binghamton to a fight-calling out prospect Jose Cornado with horrible insults, even taking his shirt off to do it. He also was recently in a verbal altercation with Francisco Rodriguez and berated a subordinate at Citi Field.

Lets not forget that the Mets top farm teams in Buffalo (Triple A) and Binghamton (Double A) stink. That sure doesn't help the volatile Bernazard if the players he is supposedly developing aren't getting it done. If GM Omar Minaya has any real power left, he needs to rid the team of this cancer now. How do I know this? Who are the Assistant GM's/Player Personnel guys for the Yankees, Phillies & Red Sox, the other teams we pay attention to in NY? You can't tell me, and that is a good thing. Bernazard is too high profile for his own good, and has to go-now.

Actually, Willie might be back in New Jersey tonight, because the Brewers played a day game in Pittsburgh and have a day off tomorrow.
You are so right about Tony Bernazard. He back stabbed Willie last year and was so pleased when Willie was fired. Well, you know, what goes around comes around. It is time to fire Bernazard. He is a bully who challenges Minor Leaguers to a fight in Binghamton, screams at a subordinate at Citi Field over seating locations and argues with Francisco Rodriguez.
Why is Bernazard so visible? This Binghamton thing happened three weeks ago, and the Mets are just investigating it now? Was their intent to cover it up, and only now that Adam Rubin of the Daily News uncovered it, that they need to address it.
It certainly will be interesting to see how Omar handles this.
