If not now, Omar, when??

The Mets, if you can't tell... are in dire need of help. They have lost 3 in a row, 8 of their last 10 and are sinking fast. Miraculously, they started the weekend set against the Phillies just a game out of first and now they sit 4 games out. Under normal circumstamces you'd say that's not an insurmountable deficit. But not so for this team. This club struggles mightily. They have to play a perfect game to win. No errors, timely hits and great pitching. They did that in Milwaukee last week and barely won 1-0.
But how many 1-0 games will they win? Omar, as a Mets fan, I'm begging you, DO SOMETHING. I don't care how, just do it. This season is slipping away and everyone knows it. Is it the money? Is it that no one is available? Are you afraid of getting ripped off? What is it?? Why won't you make a move? I don't even care who's available, just bring someone in, anyone... It's not my job to tell you who to bring in. It's your job to bring em in!!! Everyone knows you're desperate. So you might not get the best value. But sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and make a move. Trust me, the Mets have made worse moves and got less back in the past... Anyone remember Scott Kazmir... I knew you did.
The lack of punch has affected everyone on the team. David Wright can't hit his way out of a paper bag right now. He's struck out 84 times this year. By the way, Congrats on being selected to the All Star Game... Johan Santana pitches a gem, allowing 2 runs and he loses the game. Gary Sheffield, who's an old man at 40 is playing too much... He's not an everyday player anymore. Yet, he leads the team in HRs. Go figure. Need I go on??
The Phillies couldn't get out of their own way, losers of 12 of 15 BEFORE THEY FACED THE METS... The Mets were their tonic. Get fat off the Mets, that’s what teams are thinking right now. The Marlins have passed the Mets and the Braves have caught them. Are the Nationals next? This team is built to win now and they should go for it now. Yes, I know, the Mets injury situation is extremely unfortunate. But it's how you deal with it. Jerry Manuel is in a duel without a gun. Jerry needs guns!

I note your sense of desperation. Then you close with Manager Jerry Manuel, the Great Communicator. Jerry needs guns because he is an inept leader. His flip flops over the last month makes him a quality candidate for the New York State Senate.
"Tread Water" "Take Days Off The Calendar" Need The Other Team To Make Errors" "Need Breaks"
Just a few of Jerry's laments in June. He certainly instills confidence in that clubhouse. Suddenly, after someone in the organization talks to him, Jerry tells his team that "We Have Enough" in here to win. What a phoney and a hypocrite. Jerry talks as a loser. He should have said from the outset that we play with the guys we have. We CANNOT discuss who isn't here. If Jerry was a winner and a leader of men, he would say this. He obviously does not have the skill sets or even common sense on how to handle an adverse situation. You find out about people in difficult times. I certainly have found out about Jerry Manuel. If the Mets do not make the playoffs, he should be fired.
As for Omar, what would you suggest. Trade prospects like Fernando Maritnez, Wilmer Flores, Ike Davis, Brad Holy, Jonathan Niese etc. for some less than inspiring talent. The Mets could have signed Adam Dunn before the season as a free-agent and not had to surrender a prospect. Matt Holiday is having a mediocre season in Oakland and is a Scott Boras client. Mark DeRosa? Is he worth Bobby Parnell and/or Brad Holt. Aubrey Huff? Does picking up a hitter result in the Mets playing substaintiaslly better. One or two moves will not result in improving this team to the point that most Mets fans would like. Stay the course. There simply are not moves that make sense in the short or long term for this franchise.
Hey James, thanks for commenting on the blogs.. I don't blame Jerry at all for this.. He's playing the hand he's dealt.. If the Phillies have an ace and a face card, that will beat the Mets 5 and 2 every time. I don't have a problem either with Jerry saying he needs help.. He does.. I believe you're right in saying someone in the organization told him to pipe down.. Still doesn't change the fact that this team is anemic and isn't going anywhere as presently constituted.. I'll take any of the names you mentioned and I will trade whomever.. I don't think the farm system is that strong.. Will it hurt me later? Maybe.. But I'll deal with later.. Later!!
Two points we will agree to disagree on.
First, you are willing to trade anyone in the system. I am not willing to trade a Fernando Martinez, Brad Holt, Jonathan Niese, Wilmer Flores etc. We agree that the system is thin on talent. That is why I am not willing to trade any of the top prospects.
We also disagree on Jerry Manuel. For a month now, Jerry has set a negative tone for his ballclub. His comments and overall demeanor have created such a poor atmosphere in this clubhouse. I do not care who he has or does not have. Get this team to the playoffs or don't bother coming back in 2010. The "great communicator" needs to lead this team.
