Golf & Life Lessons

Golf is a fantastic sport that mixes athletic ability with technical form in such a way that unless you have a little of both, you won't be successful. That's why you can play golf at any age. As you get older, your athletic ability may wane but if you keep a consistent swing and read lines well etc., you can remain competitive. I love that! What I don't love is how anxious I get when I play. I want to just GET IT and get it right then and there. First off, I need to go to the course more than once in a blue moon and secondly, I need to remember that you don't just GET golf. What a way to learn this and other life lessons than in my nine holes with my husband and two new friends, Frank and Henry earlier this week. (in picture below)

They were so patient with me when I kept slicing the ball left and right. I actually began watching them and their cool and calm demeanors. I tried to emulate their moves and overall way they went about the game. It was such a humid day and as I was tiring out, these two "mature" men exuded such pep that it inspired me to concentrate and motivate but not freak out if there was a bad shot here and there. When I sunk a really nice putt, there were "go Lolitas" all around. When my drive on the 9th hole was right on line and a good distance, Henry says "that will make you come back". I respectfully disagree...you and Frank have fueled my desire to return to the course. Just watching both men enjoying the moment we were in and playing so well made me realize that I need to forget about the group creeping up behind us, not be embarrassed if I make a misstep and really live in the space that I consume in this world.

My husband (who by the way is a wonderful teacher and is a blast to play with) and I said goodbye to our new friends after this picture was taken. Man, I hope we run into them again. I think my golf game and life will benefit from more and more meetings.
