It's like being a kid all over again. And what better way to turn back the clock than with a game of KICKBALL.

That's what 300 or so grown men and women do every Monday night at Riverside Park, on the West Side.

Since its inception in 1998, The World Adult Kickball Association, known as WAKA has expanded to more than 49,000 registered players in 28 states. The Liberty is just 1 of 10 divisions here in New York City.

Most of us know, kickball is similar to baseball; four bases, three outs, one ball. However, instead of hitting a little white ball, you KICK a big red rubber ball.

Competitive by nature, we remember why we loved it as kids. But kickball's popularity among adults is more than just reliving your gym class glory days.

Instead it's morphed into a social scene of networking. A way for young adults to go out after work, get a little exercise and maybe even meet your soulmate. For others, it's the post game party, when the team heads to a local watering hole to indulge in some laughs over the game's highlights and bloopers.

But if booze and exercise aren't purposeful enough to sign up, each division chooses a kid-related charity in which team members donate time and money throughout the season. This year the Liberty division chose Lauren's First and Goal, an organization that supports pediatric brain tumor research while providing financial assistance to families with children battling cancer.

Regardless of your reason to join, there seems to be a way for everyone to get their kicks in.

Great article! Enjoyed seeing NY's old "Hey Whoa!" in the photo.
