Why Phil Hughes? Send Joba to the bullpen
Yankees Manager Joe Girardi says Phil Hughes has "done nothing wrong" to be taken out of the rotation. Girardi adds the team had to move Chien Ming Wang back to start, especially after pitching so well since his return from the disabled list. He is not wrong but on the latter ONLY. Wang looks great: 2.25 ERA over 3 games, 8 IP, 2 ER on 9 H, 2 BB and 7 SO. Yet Phil Hughes has really come into his own and is gaining momentum. Why stop that by moving him into the bullpen?

Hughes walked three and struck out 21 batters over his last 3 starts. His last start wasn't the best but with an offense like the Yankees, the 4 ER he gave up in his 5 innings of work, still keeps the team within striking distance. (Hughes struck out 6 in that game against Cleveland;the Yanks ended up losing by one.) Girardi says he is rewarding Hughes by keeping him in the Majors and not sending him down to Triple-A just yet. The Yankees will evaluate Hughes in the bullpen over the next two weeks, then decide whether they will send him to the minors so he can maintain his endurance as a starter.

WHY WHY? How about the Yankees end their experiment with Joba Chamberlain and send HIM to the bullpen!! Joba pitched 8 innings in his last start and I am not knocking him for his efforts but come on, with Mariano Rivera struggling and Brian Bruney back on the DL, fiery Joba should return and be "The Man" in the pen. Mold him into the dominant reliever we have already seen he can be and continue to mold Hughes into the strong starter he is to become for this team. Wang and the 22 year old could be the Dynamic Duo with the other terrific tandem of CC and AJ...AMAZING! Your thoughts...
