I spoke with Mets GM Omar Minaya immediately following his meeting with Jerry Manuel. While the bullpen sessions for John Maine and Oliver Perez were productive, both guys need at least one more minor league start before joining the team. Hear from Omar himself...

There is no need to rush John Maine and Oliver Perez back. I hear John Maine will pitch for Brooklyn in Aberdeen on Saturday. It appears Oliver Perez may have as many as two outings in Buffalo. With Fernando Nieve pitching so well, and Tim Redding doing an adequate job, the Mets can afford to be patient with John and Oliver. Better to have them fully healthy and productive when they come back to the big club. John Maine threw only 60 pitchwes last time out in Port St. Lucie, so they will probably try to stretch him out on Saturday in Maryland.
