Hey Omar: Help!!

Omar Minaya.. Are you out there?? Help!! I'm sure Jerry Manuel is saying that right now.. The Mets sit just 2 1/2 games out of First Place in the NL East.. But that's fool's gold as Pat Riley used to say.. The Phillies' June swoon is a major part of why the Mets are so close.
This team has been ravaged by injuries. And they need back-up! Carlos Beltran just went on the DL. Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado are still on the DL. As is John Maine. Oliver Perez is also there.. He's probably not as much hurt as he is ineffective. The Mets have been very unlucky in that regard. When you have Fernando Tatis batting cleanup as you did yesterday against the Cards, you know that's a problem.
Omar Minaya has to decide if he's in or out. Are the Mets going to challenge for a playoff spot or are they going to fold and look toward next year.. Well with the Mets so close in the division and in the Wild Card, I say Go for it now! I don't care if they are in second place because the Phillies can't get out of their own way.. If you make the playoffs, anything can happen. You just have to make the playoffs.. Just ask the 2006 Cardinals. Didn't they win the World Series after an 88 win regular season?? Omar .. You can't continue to try and piece it together.. The Phillies won't keep losing. The Mets need a bat.. (Not just 1) I like Adam Dunn. They need pitching. I'm not saying the Mets can get him but they should investigate what it what take to get Roy Halliday out of Toronto. They need a starter who can give the Mets some length so 1) Johan Santana doesn't have to pitch every start like its the 7th game of the World Series.. 2) so Manuel doesn't wear out the Bobby Parnells and Sean Greens of the world.
I know Minaya can't just wave a magic wand and make things better.. But some moves and not just a Minor League call-up has to be made!!

The New York Mets can stay alive in the mediocre National League. Omar does not need to make a panic move, by trading some of the young players that represent the future in Flushing.
Is there a power bat available? Is there quality relief pitching available? At the right price, I am sure the answer could be YES. The Mets need to hold onto their young talent and build from within. The Mets need to play better fundamental baseball. No need to panic. That is what the other Generasl Managers want Omar Minaya to do. Stay calm and let the market develop. The Mets can compete with the players they field daily. If they play the game the right way, they can compete. This is where the great communicator, Jerry Manuel, needs to get the most out of what he has. Let Jerry show he can make the playoffs and deserves to be back in 2010.
Everyone is saying is saying patience instead of panic. The Mets are 2.5 games behind those damn Phillies, if the Mets lose I'm not happy, but if the Phillies lose on the same day I'm happy. The Mets really need to make a huge trade by maybe trading for Matt Holliday, Adam Dunn, Mark DeRosa, or Cliff Lee.
Justin, who would you propose that the Mets trade for the players you have mentioned. Are you willing to give up Fernando Martrinez, Jonathan Niese etc. I do not think one player will make a significant difference. I think you play the cards you are dealt and stay competitive with the team you have.
Good point... James... but my one question is... this minor league talent you speak of... over the years, how have they done... the Bill Pulsiphers.. the Jason Isringhausens... the Alex Ochoas... of the world... how have they done... Not great... Even Scott Kazmir who admittedly was traded away in a horrible deal, has not turned out to be the pitcher everyone has thought him to be... Mostly because he hasn't stayed healthy... So these crown jewels in the Mets system haven't really shined too well...
