Hey New Jersey...you love the Yankees most!!!

We found today's Quinnipiac University poll interesting but not all together surprising. Consider how huge the Yankees franchise is in NY, the Tri-state area and really the world! My father, an international track and field coach, travels around the globe. He says wherever he goes, he sees at least one person with a Yankees cap, even in places where people don't have shoes on their feet. Crazy!

The poll found the NY Yankees are the overwhelming favorite among New Jersey baseball fans. According to the poll, there are as many Yankee fans as there are Mets and Phillies fans combined! (I would assume if you did the same study on Long Island, the Mets might be the big winner)

My favorite stat ,though, is the fact that of those NJ fans who are "very interested" or "somewhat interested" in MLB, 58 % of those are men, 47 % are women. Yeah ladies!!! I have always known this...female fans are increasing in many sports. We are not just there to "go with our husbands" but we go to take in the ballgame and CAN talk sports intelligently with others. By the way, today's PIX sports crew...Producer Caroline Kovach and myself. SHE-RA!

Northern New Jersey has always been a Yankee dominated area. This Quinnipiac poll documents this appropriately.
As you venture south, down the New Jersey Turnpike, the interest turns to the Phillies. I am sure after winning the World Championship in 2008, the popularity of the Phillies has grown.
I really wonder how popular around the country the Yankees were in the 1980's and early 1990's. The growth of the Yankees brand both locally, nationally and internationally has expldoded over the the past 15 years or so. Especially among the 20 and 30 somethings who grew up with the Yankees dynasty.
Just wonder if your father saw Mets caps around the world during the mid 1980's when the Mets ruled New York baseball.

To be honest, my dad says he didn't see Mets caps even in the 80's. He does see more now. I think being in PR, with so many players from the Caribbean on the team, the Mets are more popular. There is more and more orange and blue even in Canada and in Europe...still not as much as the Yanks. That's just the way it is! Thanks for being apart of our blog, James...we really like your input.

Thanks for your feedback, Lolita. I like reading and responding to the Blogs. Brian Bruney told me my responses are a "tired act," so I appreciate your positive feedback.
The Yankees probably have the largest brand worldwide. Good to hear the Mets brand has grown in Canada and Europe.

Man...Bruney is picking fights with everyone! Not a tired act at all my friend. Keep them coming!
