Weplay: the best website for anyone in youth sports
Today I interviewed Steve Hansen...an Internet guru as I have labeled him...who created the site "Geocities" (he is no longer the owner). His newest venture, Weplay, is the "center of the youth sports universe". It's an online community where players, coaches, and of course, we, parents can manage all of our kids' activities. There is a calendar that sends you emails or SMS texts to remind you when soccer practice is going on and who needs to bring the water and orange slices to the next game.

Pros like Softball pitcher Jennie Finch, NBA MVP Lebron James and the Yankees' Derek Jeter give video training tips. Then, there are the videos of Jeter and other pros before they made it big. Jeter fielding grounders in high school and Peyton Manning playing backyard football are among my favorites. The philosophy behind this is to show that these athletes began like so many kids do...on the fields of their local towns, in Little Leagues and Pop Warner football teams across the country. Check out our interview with Steve as he takes you through the site...its EASY and FREE! Love it!!!! Also go to http://www.weplay.com/ , register and win a chance to be in the next training video with Derek Jeter. Mom and Dad, I know you want to but the contest is for the kids! This site works for us "big kids" too. I am about to find myself a volleyball team to play with near where I live...

I like how you do the sports on the evening news...except when you throw in your Spanish words. It is so annoying. I understand that you are proud to be Spanish...that's great. BUT do you have to do it everyday? WHY? Stop it...it would be more enjoyable if you stop throwing in your Spanish....i get it...you know how to speak Spanish...good for you.
There are MANY better websites than weplay that do this... No stats here, which is key. Plus the athletes involvement is "limited" at best. Looks like they rip off blogs straight from the athletes' websites. Notice all the videos with the athletes, they're wearing the same thing. Lame.
My understanding is that a coach or player or parent puts in their own stats. They control what goes on his/her particular page. I would think a coach might want to put up stats from the most recent game with video or photos of the game. I agree there are individual blogs by people well versed with the internet that have the same idea, but I feel Weplay makes it easier to connect with others and condense all of your material. The pros have all consented to participate on the website. Taking a blog posting or video clip from Jennie Finch's personal web page, for example, is not kosher. She shot some of the training pieces with production people set up by Weplay, as did Derek Jeter and others. Harold Reynolds "allowed" the site to use his training video on baserunning and the like when he linked with Weplay. I am interested in seeing other websites that do something similar if you have any suggestions...
Having all the drills is fine I guess for the kids but as a baseball coach for my son's 8 year old friends I need real practice plans. Have you heard of qcbaseball.com? Really good. I don't want to have to pay but I'm guessing I will. Our team uses LeagueLineup for our home page - pretty good for what we need and we'll probably stick with it but always good to have options.
interesting piece, but not sure this site has what we need. two girls we have playing sports here in the ct area, but this site is it for kids? Our daughter wasn't able to upload a photo even, so I'm not sure how this helps. Will check out leaguelineup now. thanks.
