Jose Canseco Makes A Fool Of Himself...Again

So I really didn't know whether to put this in the MMA or baseball section of the blog. Is there a "I'm a complete moron" section? I'll have to check with our IT guys.

Jose Canseco made another faux pas that rivals beating his wives, drunken driving, going anywhere near Madonna, endorsing steroids or appearing on "The Surreal Life." I have a hard time feeling sorry for him, but THIS TIME the person he most came close to damaging was himself.

If you read my blog entries you may know that I am an MMA fan, having gotten into it because of my martial arts training. But while most MMA fans have spent the last three days reacting to Matt Hughes decision over Matt Serra, or Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida's beat down on Rashad Evans to win the UFC Light Heavyweight title, Jose was busy in Japan.

Canseco is in need of money. What better way to make some then to lend your celebrity status to a mixed martial arts event? So,Tuesday,with no trainer, cutman or real idea WHO he was fighting, Canseco agreed to take on Hong Man Choi, a Korean kickboxer, MMA fighter and ssiireum wrestler. By the way, Hong is listed at 7'3" tall and anywhere between 330 and 350 pounds. This ain't Danny Bonaduce.

Canseco with no training and only his girlfriend in his corner, lasted 77 seconds. Greed, like booze, gives us all false courage.

First of all, any promotion that calls itself a legitimate MMA promotion should have NEVER sanctioned this fight. If Canseco needed cash, why didn't he go to Vince MacMahon and the phony world of wrestling? At least he probably wouldn't have gotten hurt. I thought putting Kimbo Slice and Brock Lesnar in the cage was bad. At least those two guys can try to defend themselves-though Slice has been exposed as a fraud and Lesnar at BEST beat a shot Randy Coiture (I wonder if Dana White's yearning for publicity didn't lead to strange doings in that fight)

This Canseco thing angers me because MMA has taken great strides to be much more than what Senator John McCain used to RIGHTLY refer to as "human cockfighting." That's NOT the case anymore-but Canseco's tour de farce didn't help him (he escaped with only a knee injury) or the reputation of MMA.
