Disgusted yet? The NY Mets non-winning ways
"Congratulations Phillies, enjoy first place"...that's my husband, an avid Mets fan, after this morning's loss to the Dodgers, the Mets 3rd in a row. It's hard to NOT be disgusted. First of all, more bloops...come on Daniel Murphy, seriously catch a ball...rookie or not, I would not accept that type of play from a middle school team. You would probably be running laps or sitting out. Jerry, you are really going to let Ramon Martinez bat in the top of the 8th, with two on and one out, after his terrible night at the plate? No surprise, double play. Platooning first base (with Delgado out) is a good idea, really? HELLO...there's already the "guess who's playing today" in so many other spots...left field, right field, second base

Back to first: do we really believe Delgado will be back in two months and ready to get right back into the game? I am a believer but this one doesn't make sense. Delgado is up there in age and it will take him extra time to get in shape. We can expect some rustiness from him so he'll "really" be ready by August. By that time, who knows where the Mets will be? First base is too important a position to have a revolving door of players. Omar Minaya needs to act and I would hope he is smart enough to know that. While supporting his existing players (that's what the GM is supposed to do; it's in the book) he did say he would be looking. So I am going with that. I like Jerry so I hope he is just having a bad week. I especially hope the apathy goes away...someone in that locker room needs to say a few curse words, bang on lockers and rile up these guys. Maybe they can watch "Rudy" or "Seabiscuit" or some other inspirational movie on the way back home because the Red Sox will be no joke.

Lolita...
you are right... the Mets need to pick someone up... they are a team of bench players right now... Cora (who's now on the DL), Ramon Martinez, Luis Castillo (should be on the bench) Daniel Murphy, Jeremy Reed... and on and on and on... Do any of those guys scare you? Will David Wright and Carlos Beltran see any good pitches with these guys around them in the batting order??
The Mets need to trade right now. Daniel has to stop trying to make catches that will maybe end up on ESPN. I think they should make a trade with the Oakland Athletics that brings Matt Holliday and Russ Springer to New York and send Daniel Murphy, Eddie Kunz, and maybe Bobby Parnell to Oakland, or maybe trade for Mark DeRosa from Cleveland.
Exactly guys...thanks for the comments! I don't think that Omar et al have a lot of time to sit on their hands. If there is another bad season, there will be a wipeout at the brass level. So, trade, spend money, be "risky" if you will and get us a name that we can be excited about. Listen, I support all, from the starters to the bench players, but it HAS to be the year for Mets. Another trade name to think about, Fernando Martinez (two homers last night)...They have plenty to give without being really hurt.
Sorry people, mis-wrote...Martinez, 2 for 4 with a double and a triple last night against Pawtucket...looking at a different box score. Since I am on the subject, Martinez currently has a .287 AVG with 23 RBI and 7 HR in 37 games. Kunz has a 3-2 record, 3.94 ERA and 12 SO
It's all about the ebb and flow of a baseball season. After a successful start of the road trip in San Francisco, the Mets have now lost three in a row.
Omar cannot panic. Names such as Nick Johnson, Aubrey Huff and Mark Derosa (Bergen Catholic) have surfaced.
The Wilpon's may ne hesitant to add payroll, despite what Omar said during the conference call yesterday. The Mets can live with Daniel Murphy. Fernando Tatis and Jeremy Reed at first base for the present time.
I think Mets fans are reacting to what they have watched over the last three days. Recently the Mets had won seven in a row and were 12-3 over the first 15 days of May. Until last night. they were in first place. No need to make an immediate move.
Despite the disappointing play over the last three days, the Mets are a good baseball team. If they can fortify their lineup with a bat, that would be great. Just don't make a panic move that we may regret. Baseball is a marathon and not a sprint. We are in the race.
