Candace Parker Had A Better Year Than You and Me
For most people there’s been little to celebrate in the past year. But Candace Parker isn’t most people.
The reigning queen of women’s basketball had a stretch so remarkable in the past 12 (ok, 13) months, you’d be hard-pressed to find a person who’s accomplished more in their professional field and personal life in a shorter amount of time.
And we bring this up because TODAY Parker capped off her spectacular run with the birth of her first child, a baby girl.
You want proof as to how amazing this past year has been? Check out the UNBELIEVABLE Candace Parker Timeline we’ve constructed below.
April 8, 2008 – Named MVP as Tennessee wins 2nd straight NCAA title
1 day later……
April 9, 2008 – Drafted first overall by the LA Sparks in the 2008 WNBA Draft
29 days later…
May, 8 2008 – Graduates from the University of Tennessee with a 3.35 GPA
9 days later….

51 days later…
October, 3 2008 – Named WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year, 1st player ever to win both in same season
41 days later…
November, 13 2008 – Marries fiancée Sheldon Williams
180 days later…
Today, May 12 2009 – Gives birth to 1st child, a baby girl

See what I mean? In the past year (fine, 13 months…didn’t anyone ever tell you not to let the facts get in the way of a good story!) Parker has seemingly accomplished it all -- and, get this, she’s only 23.
In the past 13 months I’ve started a rubber band ball, gotten a few haircuts, and put off getting the oil in my car changed.
Needless to say I’m lagging behind the highly accomplished Ms. Parker.
But I can take comfort in the fact that most everyone on Earth is as well, because, let’s face it, we may never see another year like that again.

Matt, you are such a slacker but we love you anyway. Candace really is amazing and except for us around here who actually report and write about her(thank you)or any women's sports, these feats go unnoticed!
You say "slacker", my parents say "lazy bum." Tomato, tomato. Know what....that "tomato-tomato" thing doesn't work when you write it out.
Anyway, I neglected to say in my blog post that, though I do admire Ms. Parker, she certainly erred when she married Mr. Williams.
And I say that because he's a dirty, dirty Dukie. Yuck, Duke grads. I saw Shelly play when he was a dirty Dukie in Durham. Candace, what were you thinking! You should have driven 8 miles down the road and you could have had a chance encouter with a certain handsome young sports blogger. Who shall remain nameless. But still handsome.
