Can Anyone Here Play This Game?

If you stayed up late Monday night/Tuesday morning to watch the Mets/Dodgers game... you probably went to sleep a pretty upset Mets fan. I know its just one game and the Mets have been playing well of late, but this is probably one of the more excruciating losses a team can endure.

Firstly, the injuries are starting to mount. Carlos Delgado's having hip surgery Tuesday and will be out for who knows how long. Add to that Alex Cora tearing ligaments in his thumb. He was put on the D-L. Cora was subbing for Jose Reyes who has missed the last 5 games with a mysterious calf injury that even he doesn't know how he got...

But I digress... Back to the game... The Mets trailed the whole way, then fight back to tie the game in the 8th... The relievers hold and we find ourselves in the 11th tied at 2. With two outs, Angel Pagan sends a shot to the right field wall... Ryan Church scores all the way from first base and gave the Mets what they thought was a 3-2 lead. But Joe Torre immediately motioned to his Dodger players to check 3rd and sure enough, Church was called out for not touching 3rd base. How do you NOT touch 3rd??

So we go to the bottom of the 11th tied at 2... With a runner on first and no out. Carlos Beltran and Angel Pagan say "Ole" to a fly ball. It drops in and now the Dodgers have runners on second and third with nobody out... The Mets intentionally walk the next batter to load the bases. They bring in Beltran from the outfield so the Mets have a 5 man infield, hoping to stop any cheap hits. Rafael Furcal comes up with a chance to win it... He flies to left but its too shallow to get the run in. So the bases are still loaded with one out. Orlando Hudson grounds one to first. The Mets hoping for an inning ending double play. Instead, Jeremy Reed, who's obviously not a regular at first, throws wildly to the plate. The winning run scores and the Mets lose a heartbreaker. A game that they handed to the Dodgers on a silver platter. With all the injuries, there are guys fillin' in at spots where they are not comfortable. What moves will (can) they make. I don't know but this loss felt like 3 games, not just one. The Mets made 5 errors in the game... Plus the bad baserunning by Church... An awful way to lose a game... Mets fans, what's up? Share my misery... Or Yankees fans, poke fun... Do what you do, but do it on the blog!!

Supposedly Vin Scully said the following about the Mets' 11th inning last night on the Dodgers broadcast....

"If you weren't around to see the 1962 Mets, here's a reminder."

I think that about sums it up. Also, couldn't help but notice the 3:34 time stamp on this post...I guess that's what 5-error meltdowns will do to you miserable Met fans.

Yankees just won their 6th in a row! There's still room on the bandwagon!!

Great quote, Matt. I saw that in a Blog yesterday. Vin also said, "Marv Throneberry lives." It was certainly a 1962 Mets kind of night.
