WPIX to air “2009 METS: A NEW ERA”
WPIX will air “2009 Mets: A New Era” a 30-minute original special previewing the much-anticipated 2009 New York Mets baseball season. “2009 Mets: A New Era,” airs April 4th right after the PIX broadcast of the Mets pre-season game against the Boston Red Sox at Citi Field, with an encore on Sunday, April 5th at 10:30pm.
“2009 Mets: A New Era” will be hosted by PIX Sports anchor Lolita Lopez and two all-time Met fan favorites, Darryl Strawberry and John Franco.
Among the program highlights:
• Lolita and John Franco take a look at the Mets’ two major off-season acquisitions, Francisco Rodriquez and J.J. Putz, and the plans to rebuild the team’s bullpen;
• "Pitchers on Pitchers" features Johan Santana, Mike Pelfrey, John Maine and Oliver Perez analyzing the other’s performance as members of the starting rotation;
• Lolita and Darryl Strawberry take a look at the Mets’ starting lineup (including interviews with Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, David Wright and Carlos Delgado) with a special look at Daniel Murphy's "little green book" of pitchers;
• Lolita gets a sneak peek at Citi Field and explores the locker room and the areas rarely seen by fans;
• A feature on new Met Tim Redding and his famous relative (a legendary TV star with ties to Channel 11!)
• Plus: a behind the scenes look at Spring Training with manager Jerry Manuel. Manuel wore a PIX mic and allows viewers to see Spring Training through his eyes in his first Spring Training as manager.
The tenth Mets baseball season on PIX swings into action on Sunday, April 19th when the Mets face the Milwaukee Brewers at their new home, Citi Field, the first of 25 regular season Mets games airing in HD on PIX.

Just got a chance to watch, "2009 Mets: A New Era." Great job by all involved from WPIX.
Captured the essence of the team and set the stage for what should be an intriguing 2009 baseball season for the New York Metropolitans.
Enjoyed Lolita Lopez interview with John Franco about the revamped Mets bullpen. Lolita's interview with Met legend Daryl Strawberry about the lineup was very good.
The special was a comprehensive review of spring training, a look at the new Citi Field and the review of the 2009 New York Mets players, manager and coaches.
