We Ask The Bombers: Is The New Yankee Stadium A Better Hitter’s Park?
The New Yankee Stadium is open for business!
The Bombers worked out in their new home for the first time this afternoon; running, stretching and taking batting practice.
We noticed an abnormal amount of balls leaving the yard, and had to find out for ourselves if the new yard is kinder to hitters than the park across the street.
We sampled a rather diverse group of Yanks; in the piece you’ll hear from Jorge Posada, newcomers Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher, and we even asked a pitcher, fireballing-favorite Joba Chamberlain.
So is the new Yankee Stadium – with it’s open slots in left and right field – a better place to hit than the old building? Can we expect the place to be a launching pad like it was this afternoon, or was today the exception rather than the rule?
How about that new batters eye in center field? Will the players prefer to hit against the backdrop of the new glass-enclosed restaurant as opposed to the famed “black seats” in the old park?
Take a listen to how the guys scouted out their new digs.
Sure, like Swisher said, it was only one BP session. We’ll know for sure in the first few weeks whether the new Stadium will favor hitters or pitchers (or neither).
But if today was any indication, the balls may travel a little better in this new park compared with the (original) House That Ruth Built.

BY THE WAY: How awesome of an interview is Swisher??!! Something tells me us in the media and you guys at home are going to LOVE hearing from this guy for as long as he’s a Yankee. Here’s to hoping that’s many MANY more years.
