A-Rod: The Wrong Surgery

Alex Rodriguez had surgery on Monday to repair torn cartilage in his hip.

Well... A-Rod almost did the right thing. Instead of trying to play through the season he did opt to have surgery. But no, its not the comprehensive surgery that will keep him out 4 months. Its a less invasive surgery that will keep A-Rod out of the lineup 6 to 9 weeks. Doctors say he should be able to play the season, but will still need an operation at the end to put him on the shelf for 4 months. I am not a doctor... I don't even play one on TV but I think he had the wrong surgery...

Monday's procedure (which by the way went well) repaired the torn cartilage in his right hip. He should be back in May. But after the season, A-Rod will still have to undergo the major surgery. I still feel why risk it? This operation was basically a stop-gap... It doesn't fix the whole problem. So he comes back in May. What are the assurances that he still will not make his hip worse while playing sometime this season? From all accounts, the doctors say it shouldn't be a problem. In fact A-Rod has probably already started his rehab. But why risk a career for a couple of months. The Yankees have a lot of money and time invested in Alex. I would hate to see him playing in May, June, and July only to have to shut it down later. Of course, I have no idea and the doctors know best. But if you have a high end car with a flat tire, would you patch up the tire or get a new one? Bad analogy but you probably see where I am going. Eventually you'll need to replace the tire. Good luck Alex, see ya in May.
