WHY Does Slats Not Get Fired, Too?

Question, hockey fans: If YOUR team had the same GM the last eight full seasons (discount the lockout that Gary Bettman used to destroy one), missed the playoffs the first four years and had only two series wins in the postseason since, would YOU be upset? I sure would. I say that with confidence because that's the Rangers, and that's Glen Sather. Yet, Slats still has his job, even after Tom Renney, the coach that got the club into the playoffs four straight years, is gone. Explain why that is, again? That's RIGHT, Jim Dolan runs the Rangers and MSG.

There can be no other reason. Dolan seems to have more loyalty for Sather than he did for Isisah Thomas. Good thing I guess, since Slats is more of a gentlemen than Thomas. Still, most GM's with clubs that don't score and are horrid on special teams would have been exit 'Stage Left' a long time ago.

For the present, perhaps new coach John Tortorella will bring some 'fire and desire', as Clyde Frazier might say about the other Garden team, the Knicks. Can he go get a proven goal scorer and some toughness, too? That's right: That's Sather's job. I'm getting as tired of hearing about Slat's evaluation of talent and Cup winning pedigree as I'm sure Blueshirts fans are with going now 15 years without hoisting Lord Stanley's Cup. If I owned MSG, Sather would be settling into retirement in Edmonton years ago.
