Hopefully, Bonds Goes Away-For Good

Let me be clear: The above title doesn't refer to Barry Bonds' possible jail time, but rather that he just go away-out of the public eye for good. Sadly, that won't happen. Bonds' trial for lying to federal investigators about using steroids starts next month. It's just best for baseball if Bonds never saw another TV camera.

Then again, perhaps there is some good to this whole thing. The fact that prosecutors have evidence that Bonds failed at least 4 tests for PED's is no surprise. There have been multiple books on Bonds' use. But, maybe this whole mess will remind fans, players and the used car salesman acting as commissioner Bud Seig:

1. If it looks too good to be true, it usually is. We all, Selig, owners, players union and fans (myself included), turned a blind eye at the steroids era. It was fun seeing Big Mac, Sammy, hey even Brady Anderson, blasting moon shots. MLB HAD to know: TV commercials shamelessly told us how much chicks digged the long ball. The same fans and media that cheered and reported about these 'heroes' should keep their mouth on how sports miorrors the moral ruin of our society, even if that is true.

2. Bonds joins the ranks of Pete Rose, Martha Stewart and Marion Jones: It's never good to lie, especially when you're dealing with Federal Investigators or commissioners that can decide your playing fate. At least Jason Giambi told the truth when he had to.

3. No matter your status, your deeds find you out. Rose and Bonds honestly believed for years that their sins would go unaccounted for. Rose lied about betting on Reds' games for nearly 15 years. Mark McGwire has cowered in shame since appearing before Congress. Now his estranged brother has a tell all book on Big Mac, Hard to believe, but steroids is as uncomfortable to me as the DH, 9 pm playoff games and lefties with an ERA over 4 making millions of dollars.

4. You find out who your friends are. In this case, the surly, unpleasant Bonds has very few. Not one team has made a serious run at him since the Giants let him go in 2007. You would think SOME team out there would have been interested. But Barry's SOB/Diva personality got him no favors-to the point where he foolishly had the players union file a grievance claiming the owners colluded to NOT sign him. Bonds' presence in a clubhouse is as welcome as a prostate exam.

The man I feel sorry for: Henry Aaron, baseball's REAL HR king. Hammerin' Hank carried himself with grace and dignity at all times, in and out of the game. Not only did Aaron endure racial predjudice that Bonds couldn't imagine, After he retired, Aaron was never given the opportunity to manage, own, or run a team. Then, at the request of Selig, Aaron had to kiss up to Bonds as 'Barroid' broke his record.

Go away, Barry. I don't care where, just go away.
