David Wright hung out with some young Met fans Thursday afternoon at Schneider Children's Hospital in New Hyde Park, Long Island.

In addition to signing autographs, posing for pictures and talking Mets baseball with the youngsters, Wright also met with the media.

We caught up Wright one-on-one to get his take on free agency, the Phillies, and how the World Baseball Classic is affecting his pre-season preparation. Check out the interview after the jump.

The WBC issue is a thorny one for Met fans. With several Mets on rosters (Wright, Jose Reyes, K-Rod, Johan Santana, JJ Putz, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Alex Cora, Pedro Feliciano and Brian Schneider) there's a possibility for distraction, over-exertion and even injury.

The simple fact that Wright is starting his pre-season workouts early makes us a little nervous. The 162-game season is famously referred to as a "marathon," and it's unlikely he'll benefit from the extra miles.
