Let Manny be Manny... In Flushing (Part Deux)

I first blogged about this back on November 7th... Didn't think it would still be an issue today... But as we are roughly a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting, I will bang the drum again. Bring Manny Ramirez to the Mets!! From what I hear, Omar Minaya is interested in Manny. The Mets should be interested in Manny. Manny will help immensely because the Mets outfield situation is far from settled.
Fernando Tatis is trying to come back from an injured shoulder... Ryan Church is trying to come back from his concussions. The Mets need a big bopper in the lineup to help take the pressure off David Wright, who as we all know is a great talent, but comes up small in the clutch. Also, will the Mets get the same monster year out of Carlos Delgado that they got last year?? Probably not.
Now I know Manny can be Manny... We all know how he left Boston... We know he can be a royal pain in the butt... But is there anyone in the game right now who you would fear more when they are at the plate? I made this point before. If Dennis Rodman can win 3 NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls without causing 'major' trouble, Manny can come to the Mets and be a big piece of the puzzle. If they do come in, the Mets would need a "handler" type of guy. Some veteran, who's worth would be more in the locker room than on the field... Who that is, I don't know. But bringing Manny to the Mets would be a big draw especially as the Mets open Citi Field. Maybe that handler is Pedro Martinez. I would take him as a 5th starter. And Pedro and Manny were teammates in Boston so maybe Pedro can help keep him in line. I guess I'm saying bring Pedro back too.
What do you guys think? Should the Mets bring in Ramirez? Am I the only crazy person that says yes?

Bring Manny to Flushing
As much as we might want Manny in Flushing, it probably will not happen on a number of different levels. The Wilpons are not interested in raising the payroll beyond the $143M from a year ago. Also, an angle I have not heard is the professional reloationship between Fred and Jeff Wilpon and Red Sox owner John Henry. These ownership groups became fast friends in 2006 when Henry and the Red Sox invited the Mets front office to Fenway park during the Mets series there in June 2006. Since masnny quit on the red Sox last season, I cannot see the Wilpon's placing Manny Ramirez in the Mets lineup for this reason. The Red Sox and their ownership group is a reason why the Mets will not sign Manny. So, for all the lame Mets fans who have some affection for the stinky Sox, know that your team from Boston will prohibit the Mets from entering into any negotiations with Mnny.
