Fans and Schools the Losers in BCS Title Game

Thursday night's BCS title game between Florida and Oklahoma offers an excellent matchup, featuring two Heisman quarterbacks in Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford. But will the winner really be the national champion? When will the NCAA finally create a fair playoff system? At least four other teams deserved the number one seed just as much as Florida.
USC dominated its opposition for most of the season. Its overpowering win over Penn State convinced me that they can easily compete with both Florida and Oklahoma. Sure, they were upset by Oregon State, but doesn't Florida's loss to Ole Miss mean anything? Next we have Texas. Here's another team that only suffered one loss all season, and that to a Texas Tech team that was undefeated at the time. Texas also beat Oklahoma, but it doesn't seem like anyone has taken that into consideration.
Texas Tech lost to Oklahoma but won the rest of its games before bowl week. Alabama also ended its season with only one loss, so who's to say it shouldn't have had the opportunity to compete for a championship. Last but definitely not least is the most underrated program this season: the UNDEFEATED Utah Utes. Shouldn't a team with no losses be an automatic? It defeated four nationally ranked programs during the regular season and crushed Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. In my mind they are the national champs.
Why do we still let a small group of people and computer programs decide who's best? There should be a playoff in which the top eight teams have an equal opportunity to compete for the championship. Each of the four first-round matchups can be made into a major BCS Bowl. These games should be followed by a national semifinal and a championship. This way we won't have to sit around for nearly a month before the big game. And sure, if the NCAA wants the money from the many pointless bowl games that feature .500 teams, then so be it.
Have we really come to the point where a college sport is so consumed by money that fairness is thrown out the window? What about the 70 schools not recognized by the BCS? Don't they deserve a fair shot at the title? No #1 high school recruit will ever attend such a school because a national championship would be out of the question. The whole system needs to change immediately! -Matan Cohen of The Huddle

The alleged BCS Championship Game is just another exhibition, just like the previous 33 Bowl Games. USC dominated Penn State on New Year's Day in the Rose Bowl. Utah is 13-0 and defeated Alabama from the mighty(?) SEC. Alabama was Number 1 in the polls for five consecutive weeks this season. How can you deny Utah, at 13-0, a claim for the National Championship. If you try, play them on the field, not in the computers. This is all folly. Division I College Football is the ONLY sport that does not dtermine a championship on the field. Why should anyone invest in the four hours (these college bowl games are so long) that it will take to decide the winner of Florida and Oklahoma. Are these two the best teams in the land? maybe so....Maybe Not. Ask USC and Utah! last year they attempted to convince us that Ohio State was one of the two best teams. How did that work out for the genius BCS group. Who is the BCS? Just drop the "C" and you might have you answer to this entire circus. Division I College Football continues to be a joke that has ceased being funny. Don't insult yourself by watching this mess. USC is the National Champion!!! Utah is the National Champion!!! Each have their claim.
