Road Sweet Road

There's no place like home, and that's not a good thing. The New Jersey Nets have won only 4 of the 11 games at the Izod Center but 7 of 10 away from home. Go figure. Friday night's game was especially painful as the Nets got their doors blown off by the Toronto Raptors 101-79. Vince Carter was 0 for 13 from the field, scoring only 3 points and he blew off reporters after the game. Hey Vince, we know you had a bad game but give the reporters 10 minutes. Jeez! We know you'll talk when you score 40.

But the Izod Center is not a great home arena for the Nets. It never has been... Even when it was the Brendan Byrne Arena, The Meadowlands Arena, The Continental Airlines Arena or the Izod Center, the Nets never had a great fan base there. I hate when the Knicks come to exit 16W and three quarters of the building is rooting for the orange and the blue. That was the case Wednesday when the Knicks came in and beat the Nets. I guess you can tell I am a Nets fan. The Nets had better start playing better at home because I guarantee, they will not win 70% of their remaining road games like they have to start the season.

The Izod Center kinda has a lame duck status as the franchise prepares to move to Brooklyn. I have no concrete information but I just don't think it will happen. They still have not dropped a shovel into the ground on Flatbush Avenue and I don't think they will... I expect a move to the Prudential Center in Newark. The Ratner people send out e-mails every once in a while saying that they are still committed to the Brooklyn move... I'll believe it when I see it... It's been pushed back how many times already?

But my original point of this blog is just that the Nets, just have to put it together at home. It's not the fault of the 10 Nets fans who show up to the games. The Nets have to give them something cheer for and then the fans will cheer. Then the team will feel like they have a good fan base. But no one will cheer 31% shooting and 79 dreadful points.
