So day one of the winter meetings in Las Vegas has produced no headlines. But there are many headlines to be written, hopefully this week. Where will free agents Manny Ramirez, C.C. Sabathia, and Mark Teixeira wind up? Will the Mets sign a reliever, or two?

The Daily News is reporting that the Mets have offered a 2 year deal worth less that 24 million dollars to closer Francisco Rodriguez although they are not optimistic he will take it. The reliever who set a major league record, saving 62 games, is looking for a 5 year deal worth about 65 million dollars but he may have to settle for less because of the economy. The Mets met with him Sunday. They are also interested in reliever Brian Fuentes.

The Yankees have made no secret about their desire to sign C.C. Sabathia. Their 140 million offer remains on the table while the Brewers' offer checks in at 100 million. Sabathia would like to play for one of the California teams (reportedly with the Dodgers) but it doesn't seem like those teams have either the desire or the money to sign him so it will most likely come down to the Yankees or Brewers. Manny Ramirez keeps his money truck in park, soon to drive off with a mint. But right now, all's quiet in Vegas. How often can you say that?
