Memo To Mets: Say No To Pedro
Every day on my way to work, I pass by an auto mechanic who had a Buick Skylark circa the 1950's in his shop. Turns out that though the car looks nice, you can't get the ride on the road too often without having problems. The classic Skylark is all show, no go. Such is the case with Pedro Martinez.

If there is ANY truth to the tabloid reports that the Mets are considering a way to bring Martinez back, I may have to move to Wyoming. Maybe I'll offer to be Sarah Palin's Lieutenant Governor in Alaska. PLEASE Omar Minaya-FORGET IT!
Let me be clear-I don't want to denigrate Pedro personally. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer and a thoughtful and articulate competitor. Kudos to him for busting his hump to try and pitch the last two seasons despite multiple injuries. But even El Duro admitted last year that he was getting older and his competitive window was closing.
Where does Martinez fit here? His last three plus seasons in Flushing he was MIA most of the time. It's time for the Mets to think YOUNGER anyways. Pelfrey and Maine are behind Santana. YES, Maine was hurting at the end of 2008-but he's a lot younger with a lot less mileage on his body than Pedro. Perhaps the Mets are thinking of Orlando 'El Duque' Hernandez too? What about Johnathan Niese? I'd rather see him. Best options of course, are Derek Lowe and/or A.J. Burnett. If we don't get one of them, throw Andy Pettitte (not likely) and Oliver Perez feelers.
While we're at it, can someone get into Minaya's head that Luis Castillo is a lost cause? Perhaps the Mets GM envisions Castillo in a Marlins' uniform when he sees him at second base. Like Pedro and the Buick Skylark, it's time for Castillo to ride off into the sunset.
