Justin Tuck and the Giants D Bail Out the Offense Again!
It is amazing that despite scoring 35 points Eli Manning still has to say that the defense bailed them out against the Cowboys last night. The Offense was clicking from the start, fourteen points in the first quarter, 319 total yards, and they went 5/5 in the red zone. However, 3 turnovers, including a pick six by Manning, almost cost the Giants the game. Big Blue's defense came to the rescue, forcing 4 turnovers of their own, including two interceptions by Corey Webster. The attitude in the locker room is clear, the Defense has championship swagger, and the offense, well they are just trying to hold on.
Every win the Giants put under their belt seems to put Tom Coughlin in a better mood, and rightly so. Always feisty with the media, Coughlin has even warmed up in the post game press conferences. Despite being discouraged over the three turnovers, you can tell Coughlin is getting excited about his 7-1 Giants. Watch the video after the jump.
On the defensive side, despite 2.5 sacks, Justin Tuck had plenty to say about the controversial late hit call against him (the first of his career) on Brooks Bollinger in the 2nd half.
Corey Webster had an all-pro game last night with two interceptions, and despite the Giants D having an NFC leading 14 turnovers; he says they are still hungry for more.
A super bowl ring and 35 point still isn't enough for people to stop questioning Eli Manning. Every time you think he has "turned the corner"; he throws a pick-six that puts him right back into place. Sadly, Eli has to say things like this after a big win to make up for it:
Another problem on offense is Manning's relationship with Plaxico Burress; the two haven't been connecting recently. Although Burress leads the team in receiving yards with 390, he only has 9 receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown in the last three games. Burress had this to say after the game:
The Giants have a tough schedule ahead, with three road games in the next four weeks. Next week the Giants are in Philadelphia, and who knows, if the Big Blue defense can shut down Big D, maybe they don't need an offense.
