Brett Favre and the Jets Fly while the defense keeps the Rams Grounded
This game was over before it even began. It was a perfect balance of offense and defense at Giants Stadium today. Brett Favre and the Jets were seven for seven in the first half…it's hard to say it, but it's true, Gang Green played a PERFECT 1st half of football. The defense did their part too, with four turnovers including a fumble returned for a touchdown by Calvin Pace. The sad part about this game was that it was almost too boring to watch….the Rams looked like a D-III college team today. Half way through the first quarter the game was over, and the Jets just beat into them like a punching bag.
Boring as it may have been, this was a statement game for the Jets. Eric Mangini came into the post game press conference making jokes, and it was clear that Mangini was proud of the turnaround his team has made.
Despite the score, Brett Favre only had a mediocre day. Favre only threw for 167 yards, but most importantly had zero turnovers. After the game Brett spoke about confidence, and how Gang Green is feeling after the blow out.
On the other side of the ball, the defense was clicking on all cylinders. Four turnovers in the first half, all leading to scores, and five total made this a landmark game for the Gang Green D. Calvin Pace and Abram Elam led the way, Pace returned a fumble for a TD and registered half a sack…Elam had four tackles and a sack. Here's what they both had to say about the Jets dominating performance:
The star of the show, Thomas Jones had an All-Pro day. Running for 149 yards and three touchdowns, Jones has settled in nicely to Eric Mangini's offensive scheme. After the game Jones spread the love to his offensive line, and walked us through two of his three touchdowns.
Don't let the Jets fool you, 6-3 is nothing to shy away from, but we are about to see what Gang Green is really made of. The heart of the schedule includes a short week this week before heading to New England to face the Patriots, and then a huge showdown in Tennessee against the undefeated Titans. If the Jets can get through even one of those two games with a win, it is safe to say you will see them in January.
