Star-bury's light has dimmed
Is this the end of Stephon Marbury's Knicks career? Sure looks like it. Before Friday night's 116-87 loss against the 76ers in Philadelphia, he was put on the team's inactive list. Coach Mike D'Antoni said that it wasn't anything that Steph has done, adding that the team is going in a different direction. That may or may not be the case.
But would the Knicks be better served by playing Marbury to try and increase his trade value? They obviously don't want to eat his contract. I get that. But he won't do the Knicks any good on the bench. Seriously, should Mardy Collins be getting minutes ahead of Marbury? Probably not.
Marbury, to his credit, has been a good soldier. Before the game tonight, he said he wasn't frustrated. Yeah, right! I would be. He says it's the coach's decision and it's out of his control. Smart move. Teams are watching. If Marbury bad-mouths the Knicks on the way out of the door, other clubs might be hesistant to trade for him. Marbury has 21.9 million reasons to keep his mouth shut and play nice... Even if he isn't playing.
