Same Old Jets?

After watching the Jets eek out a 28-24 win against a downright awful Chiefs team, you have to wonder if Gang Green is a playoff contender or pretender. During a span of three games against the doormats of the NFL – Cincinnati, Oakland, and KC – the Jets played down to their competition. Clichéd as that may sound, there’s no denying this team has yet to show the killer instinct characteristic of ACTUAL playoff contenders.

During my post game locker room tour, the atmosphere was more “morgue” than “victorious.” Players left quickly, spoke softly, and reluctantly conducted interviews with the media.

The general consensus was the Jets must play better, especially against teams whose starters would be scout team players anywhere other than Kansas City. And that can’t happen soon enough. Beginning next week against the first place Bills, the Jets schedule gets very tough. First Buffalo, then the resurgent Rams and the always brutal Patriots in
Foxboro, to name a few.

If the same Jet team that squeaked by KC and laid an egg against Oakland shows up for those games, you can forget about this team contending for a playoff spot as early as mid-November.
