It Ain’t Over for the Yanks

The baseball season has entered August and, as usual, Yankee fans are getting nervous about their team’s AL East position and playoff chances. But I’m not ready to freak out. Sure, the team is 6 ½ games out of first place and 3 ½ back of the wildcard, but there’s still a lot of baseball left to play.

With Xavier Nady and Ivan Rodriguez joining the squad, the Yankees have the most dangerous lineup in baseball. Their season numbers may not show it, but they can catch fire at any time. Their pitching staff, although shaky of late, has come a long way since April. Furthermore, they are loaded with veterans who are hungry for a championship. More after the jump.

I was watching “Mike and the Mad Dog” on YES and heard Christopher Russo say that “the Yankees are in trouble.” These ups and downs are familiar to Yankee fans, who in the end have watched their team play in October for the last 13 years. After the team’s dramatic turnaround last season, how can we be anything but optimistic? I may have a spoiled Yankee fan’s mentality, but I think worriers should just take a deep breath and relax. - Matan Cohen, Special to Bobby v. the World
