A few weeks before Shea openned my and I rode our bikes to Shea,we were watching the construction workers putting the final tuches on the ball park, when one of the workers turned to us and said come here kids, how would you guys like to be the first to run the bases.Of couse we took him up on that offer.I was 12 years old at the time.I am now 56,and still belive we were the people to run the bases at Shea.

My Favorite Shea Memory.... FATHER'S DAY 1969 my first time at Shea -
My baby brother & I became a Met fans prior to 1969 because my dad & older brother followed the Mets. My dad affectionatley referred to them as "the clowns." (Mind you, Dad was still hurting from the loss of the NY Giants and Willie Mays.) In March of '69, with my older brother in the service, my dad passed away suddenly. My brother was sent home to help care for us. He took us to our first game at Shea for Father's Day. It was very special, I was thrilled yet sad to spend my 1st Father's Day without my dad. Well, when the Mets went on to win the World Series that year, we felt they did it just for us. To this day I amaze people by naming the entire '69 team. They will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason. I hold many memories over these 40 years. Losing Shea will feel like losing my family home, but life goes on - Lets Go Mets 2008
