Mocker and Real-Time Bus Info
www.MTA.info/bustime is the latest effort from MTA to give real time bus info. It's active on one line in BK right now, the B63 (there are 2 other lines in Manhattan. I just checked the links and it said they were being updated)
Here's the headline: Information Available Online, by Text Message and on Your Smartphone; MTA BusTime Coming to Staten Island Next

Governor Cuomo's budget proposal is out. Here's MTA statement about transit $$ -- fare increase is supposed to be in 2013 (but when i asked, chairman won't rule out one before, just that they will try to stick to the regular planned increases ... but how big??)
MTA Statement on Governor’s Budget
February 1, 2011
We understand that the State’s fiscal crisis requires sacrifice from every area funded by the State, including the MTA. Because the MTA has already taken unprecedented measures to reduce costs, finding an additional $100 million in 2011 will be very painful, especially with sizable deficits still projected for 2012 and 2014. As we continue cost-cutting, further reductions become harder and harder to achieve.
But we must fill this gap, and we will fill it without resorting to fare and toll increases or service cuts, because our riders have already been hit with these painful measures over the past year. Instead, we will work to find additional cost-savings through efficiencies and improved productivity throughout our company. We are hopeful that this year we can work with our labor unions to find productivity improvements that protect jobs even as we reduce costs.
Making these cuts will be painful, but we can only spend as much money as we have. Given the financial pressures facing the State, local governments, and every New Yorker, our only choice is to manage the MTA so that every dollar counts.
Mocker and What the Tweet, MTA?
If it's creative and innovative, it must be on twitter.
Let's all friend the MTA on twitter. I found they're responding to people's inquiries (@metronorthtweet is particularly worth interacting with).

Big changes to Metro North New Haven Line add more chaos to Grand Central Station. Of course, I had to jump in the mix.
Mocker and the Triumph Statue that Needs More "Umph"
I added links (click below) Take a closer look at the base of the statue because there's more controversy there.

New legislation would have NYC regulating curb pick-ups, drop-offs a permit system for “Chinatown Buses.”
I have yet to take a ride on one (but I almost did once to get to Baltimore). Some friends love 'em.

It's back. Always looking for pictures and ideas and the little something different. We do this on Fridays.
Always see what has been added on my facebook or send to mocker@pix11.com.
This installment includes a plea to Donald Trump from some Queens neighbors about the statue we talked about yesterday. Oh, and potholes, of course. And why is a crew cleaning snow from a fountain in Manhattan?

Mocker and the Wrong Path Made Right
On the night of the Superbowl, Laurance Grube was walking with a buddy in the street on Lowell Avenue in Central Islip. The sidewalk was burried under piles of snow and ice.
A car hit him. He died. Suffolk police say the driver was drunk. The next day, I saw video of people still walking in the street.

I dig through another layer of red tape around an icy and snow-packed sidewalk. Town of Islip cleared a portion of the stretch along Lowell Ave. I talked to Central Islip School District, Islip Planning Department, and Suffolk County.

This is beginning to feel like a battle. We advanced about half a block today. But there's still a half to go. And it's the part of the sidewalk that is closest to the Central Islip train station.
Laurance Grube was walking in the road along this section of blocked sidewalk and a car hit him. I know there are many other sidewalks that need plowed. His death highlights an ongoing danger. Can we make this area, this one area, safer?

Action packed one this time. And we talk about some comments about the unclear sidewalk. Mr. G stops by.
I added the my response to being called an "idiot," "jackass" and "bonehead" (and that was just today)

Mocker Back At the Statue
Congressman Weiner and Council Member Ferreras called a press conference in front of the "Triumph of Civic Virtue" today. "Triumph of Civic Virtue is Offensive, Depicts Man Stepping on Women" is the headline on their press release (which you can read below). A few supporters of the statue also showed up. They stated their case, as well.
Here's the report and then some (including my interview with supporters of the statue)
Check out the link to the Congressman's Craigslist post, as well (just click below).
