Whether it's for sex, sports or getting in shape, men tend to have laser like focus. They're wired to concentrate on a single thing, whereas the female brain evolved to tackle multiple things. When a guy wants to lose weight, he might decide to cut out beer or run sprints-that's his big plan.
But us ladies, we multitask, vowing to nix dessert, go vegan, ban soda, halve portions, hit the gym at dawn…So it's no surprise we fail! It is exhausting. Instead, pick your worst diet habit (bingeing on bread?) and a challenging fitness goal (regular Spin classes?) and attack only those for four weeks.
So we're doing a strength training workout. Strength training, which only about 17% of women do, revs metabolism, torches calories and sculpts sexy muscles. It's so effective, in fact, that you should put cardio on the back burner and make strength training 60% of your routine-no joke!
Meaghan Murphy, Fitness director of Self Magazine, stopped by to show us some moves.

Wakeup Workout: Perfect Posture

Headaches, shortness of breath, tight muscles and fatigue are only some of the ailments that can result from poor posture, a widespread condition today, especially for those hunched over desks and computers.
Dr. Beverley Marr of Stamford Healthcare Associates has come up with a solution, The SOAR Method for Perfect Posture, a 15-minute sequential stretching and strengthening program that targets all major muscle groups, particularly the core, and trains the body to stand up straighter and taller.
NECK STRETCH
Improves flexibility in the neck, which is crucial for proper posture. Forward head carriage is a common misalignment of the neck, especially for women and it puts undue pressure on the base of the neck. This can cause tension headaches and neck pain, among other ailments. This stretch counters those effects and encourages the head to rest in proper alignment above the neck and shoulders.
