Celebrating Passover With Aron Hirtz's Kissena Farms

passover0418.jpg

Aron Hirtz, owner of Aron's Kissena Farms in Flushing, Queens the largest kosher superstore in the country, was here to talk about the Passover Seder. He's bringing matzoh, Gefiltah fish, brisket and dessert.

Aron says Passover marks the time when the Jews had their exodus out of Egypt and found their freedom. It's a happier, more festival holiday than say Yom Kippur, and mostly a time when families get together, enjoy their company and of course some great food!

• MATZOH AND MATZOH BALL SOUP
The Jews had to flee Egypt and didn't have time to wait for the bread to rise and, hence, matzoh was born! here we have two different types of matzoh: machine made and hand made. There are two main differences between them, the shape and the price - handmade is much more expensive, but with that comes an even higher guarantee that the product is kosher, and it's usually a little tastier! And it's very easy to take this matzoh and turn it into delicious matzoh ball soup.

• GEFILTE FISH
Gefilte fish is a very popular, standard Jewish fish, and it is so because it's very easy to prepare. you can go to any kosher fish counter and get some wrapped up - then all you have to do is filet it quickly in a pan and it's ready to go. Traditionally, this is popular because its very easy to prepare for a large party.

• BRISKET
For the main course at your Passover meal, many people serve a nice brisket. You just put the brisket in a pot on the stove and cook it with some wine, and serve it with carrots and onions and it is delcious. It will literally just break off and melt in your mouth.

• KOSHER DESSERT
You will never know that this kosher cake is made from potato starch and not flour. It looks exactly like a traditional cake - and it tastes just as good, if not better, but it is completely Kosher.

Aron's Kissena Farms is located at 72-15 Kissena Blvd, Flushing, NY 11367. For mroe information, visit kissenafarms.com..

To begin with, "Gefiltah" fish is spelled "Gefilte" and is is not something you filet nor is it a species of fish. It is ground fish ( usually pike and or whitefish ) mixed with other ingredients, formed into balls or loaves and then cooked. Who told you to filet it in a pan? They are quite misinformed.
