Ex-Brooklyn Cop Turns Indie Filmmaker With 'Beneath The Rock"

rock0421.jpg

Local filmmaker Eliana Ujueta and actor Jason Cruz will be in to discuss their film Beneath the Rock which recently appeared at the SoHo International Film Festival. Eliana is an ex-cop who lost four brothers to drugs. She's taken her life experiences and put to them on screen. Beneath the Rock is about an illegal gambling ring run by cops which has striking similarities to her life.

"For generations a block in Brooklyn has been controlled by the local police brass. They run an illegal underground casino that lies beneath the bedrock, with the residents above serving as its work force. The residents have been content, until a 12 year old neighbor goes missing. Her brother, along with some of the other residents, will do anything to expose the criminals -- even set them up to destroy each other," says the movie's Facebook page of the plot.
