Fire Safety: Check Your Alarms, Change Your Batteries

In anticipation of Daylight Savings Time, the FDNY will be handing out free Duracell batteries (for smoke detectors) at subway hubs during morning and evening rush hours on Friday, March 11, and a Fire Safety Education Lieutenant Anthony Mancuso to discuss:

• Fire safety tips featuring a firetruck and safety product table top
• The free battery giveaway at subway hubs during morning and evening rush hours
• Important statistics including:
• More than 97 percent of homes have at least one smoke alarm. However, the smoke alarms in a third of those homes do not work due to a missing or dead battery
• Having a working smoke alarm increases your chance of surviving a fire by 50 percent
