FDA Issues Food Coloring Warning

The big health news yesterday…the F.D.A. is considering warning labels for foods containing artificial colorings. After staunchly defending the safety of artificial food colorings for years, the Food and Drug Administration is for the first time publicly reassessing whether or not packaged foods should carry warnings that the bright artificial colorings may worsen behavior problems like hyperactivity in children.
Dr. Jeffrey A. Morrison, an award-winning physician and nutritionist focusing on environmental and integrative medicine, has devoted an entire book (Cleanse Your Body, Clear Your Mind) to the links between toxins and chemicals in our food and environment to health and behavior. The physician and nutritionist stopped by to share his thoughts on the potentially harmful chemicals found in food coloring. He says in his new book, “Even though youth has his advantages, it also has a large disadvantage when it comes to toxic exposure...the younger you are, the more likely it is that your entire diet has been compromised, giving you greater uninterrupted exposure to these chemicals.”
Cleanse Your Body, Clear Your Mind is currently in bookstores and online. In it, Dr. Morrison details his revolutionary program that will remove toxins from your body in order to achieve lasting health. Like the popular cleanses on the market, Cleanse Your Body, Clear Your Mind, will help you lose weight and get a glow, but Dr. Morrison’s book goes an important step beyond that -- it explains the science of what specific toxins are doing to your body, creates a medically prescribed elimination detox diet to address specific health issues and prevent disease, as well as includes advice for ridding really scary toxins from your home and life.
The EPA estimates that there are more than 20,000 different types of chemicals that our bodies cannot metabolize. In fact, our bodies have become repositories for the thousands of compounds which have invaded our air, water, and food supply. Dr. Morrison shows you exactly how these insidious chemicals are breaking down your natural detoxification systems and explains the latest scientific data that links toxins to specific illnesses. But most importantly, he details a plan for how to get rid of them.
Dr. Morrison divides the book into three major parts: “Identifying Toxins,” “How Toxins Affect Health,” and “The 30-Day Detox Program.” In each part he shares the cutting-edge medical research and scientific studies proving how daily exposure to chemicals is affecting our health. Patients of Dr. Morrison’s suffer from a variety of ailments that have all been cured with his Detox and elimination diet and without the use of drugs. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Gastro-Intestinal Distress, unexplained aches and pains, and even infertility, are all conditions that Dr. Morrison can attribute to an increased toxic load.
His “Detox Questionnaire” at the beginning of the book reviews a large range of symptoms and conditions, and scores an overall toxicity based on which areas of the body have been most affected so you can monitor the improvement in your systems throughout the program.
Dr. Morrison’s approach is holistic—he targets what is attacking you from inside and out. From suggestions from buying organic foods and natural cleaners, to installing air and water purifiers, to providing shopping guides for the most sustainable and safe fish and meats to eat, this book is a modern day guide to living a clean life.
Dr. Morrison’s patients have reported feeling better in as few as ten days. This isn't a three-day, drink some green juice cleanse. This is a life-long program for everyone sickened by modern life who wants to detox to regain their health and vitality. And when you follow this program, you’ll find that you feel so good, that living clean becomes a lifestyle.
