Chef Rick Bayless Helps Plant 'Seeds Of Change' In East Harlem

chef0331.jpg

Chef Rick Bayless stopped by with some recipes we can make using veggies you can grow in your own back yard!

Bayless has partnered with the New York Restoration Project and Seeds of Change and kicked off a gardening event up in East Harlem yesterday. Seeds of Change will be giving the New York Restoration Project thousands of seed packets to be used at their 55 community gardens across New York City.

“The Sowing Millions Project” is a year-long organic seed giveaway program, sponsored by Seeds of Change, that will be distributing one million seed packets in support of organic gardening efforts across the country. And the seeds are available to any individuals or groups who want them – just visit www.seedsofchangefoods.com while supplies last.

Rick has fun recipes he can demonstrate which showcase using veggies you can grow in your own back yard! They include:

• Main Course Salad: Seared Chicken with wilted spinach, tomatoes, knob onions using the Red Pepper Salad Dressing blended with canned chipotle chiles. Drizzled with fresh lime juice to finish.

• Vegetarian Entrée: Havana Cuban Style Rice mixed with cucumbers, red onion, roasted red pepper, and frisee.

• Main Course Entrée: Slow cooker mole made with ancho chiles (air dried poblanos), almonds, and dark chocolate. Paired with a roasted boneless turkey breast with sweet potatoes or butternut squash chunks. Garnished with flat leaf parsley and sliced raw white onion. Served with Persia Seven Whole Grain Pilaf Blend.

• Main Course Entrée: Sauteed Shrimp with a Roasted Fresh Tomato Chipotle sauce, garnished with cilantro and served over the Cuzco Whole Grain Quinoa Blend.
