Hi Dr. Steve i am allergic to shellfish, pork, strawberries, red #40 and yellow #5 & #6. How can I find out what else I'm allergic to. Thank you
Hi Dr. Steve, I am a parent of a child who is literally allergic to food. I refused to leave the emergency room because he was throwing up for about 5 months and that week, at 15 months old he was diagnosed with severe E.E. (Eosinophilic Esophagitis). He is almost 4 now and is exclusively on an elemental diet (formula). Birthdays, school, and even dinner time is challenging. My doctor and I have been doing all that we know to do; monthly scopings after each new food, seeking help from out-of-state resources, and amongst other things preparing the food differently and choosing organic. Our efforts thus far have been in vain, he has been allergic to every food we have tried. If you have any insight, know of any one who can help, or have a list possible foods that cause little to no allergies that would be great.

i am allergic to dust why do I sneeze around dust?
Dear Dr. Steve,
How are we to address an emergency situation safely for our 9 year old son who is allergic to corn and all corn derivatives?
Everyday as Americans we are breathing, eating or touching corn in some form or another.
We learned about his allergy to corn when he was 2 1/2. Since then he has not eaten anything other then home made food, is homeschooled due to the contamination levels in a school building and is very restricted in his life due to inhaling the scent of a corn derivative will make him ill.
I run a website WWW.CORNFREEDOM.COM I started it last year to help gain support for myself while dealing with our sons' hypersensitivity to corn and all corn derivatives. Since I posted my site on Facebook and the Web I have over 3,000 people asking me questions and looking for support.
My latest concern is Emergency Medical Care or a Hospital stay. For us to get medication for our son we need to compound it at a special pharmacy to avoid the corn. It can take up to 3 days to have the medication shipped to us.
If our son has an emergency situation and needs to get hospitalized the doctors and nurses do not fully understand that every preserative, food coloring and medication they are going to administer to our son most probably has corn in one form or another.
The corn allergic community are terrified of medical care due to "complications" that happen during their hospital stay. They are fed food with corn derivatives, given IV solutions or pain medications that are contaminated with corn. They leave the hospitals bloated, covered in hives or worse go into anaphylactic shock.
Please help us. We are a very quick growing community and we are in desperate need of understanding
Thank you
I think it's wonderful the awareness you are bringing for kids/adults w/allergies. My question is will you or would you consider doing a segment about metabolic disorders? It's more common than you would think. My daughter Cristina 11 has PKU a metabolic disorder that prevents her from breaking down protein in food. If you would like more info or would like 2 speak 2 me more please feel free 2 contact me. Thank you, Marielaina LaRosa 908.902.8524
Dr. Steve,
First thank you for all your doing this week. My son who just turned 11 has life threatening food allergies to milk protein, eggs and tree nuts. We nearly lost him at just about 1 year old and sadly his allergies are not showing signs of getting better. We are advocates for food allergy awareness, though sadly some people in our lives just still don't get it. We are also very open with our son on how to live with food allergies because while the statistics show 80% of kids will outgrow food allergies, his numbers are just not coming down and we want him to be prepared to be in that 20%.
My question for you is are there good resources/literature/websites for him as he enters his teen years. He sadly has already experienced food allergy bullying (and sadly his principal did not handle it well). But as kids become teens there are a host of additional issues they face when food could literally kill them. Even kissing a girlfriend could be a concern. We openly discuss everything with him but wondering if there is a place he can turn for private support.
Please let us know if you are aware.
Thanks again for all of this
What happens if I eat red 40 and yellow 5 or yellow 6???
